Accounting Supervisor

Hydro One Brampton is seeking an Accounting Supervisor to join our team.

In this supervisory position, you will oversee and assist Hydro One Brampton’s accounting and reporting functions, and ensure that all activities are in compliance with sound financial accounting practices. With a team of five direct reports, you will ensure that adequate internal controls are in place to protect assets and deliver accurate results.

Reporting to the Controller, you will:

Oversee Hydro One Brampton’s accounting operations, financial processing, and financial systems
Prepare financial statements and reports for management and corporate users
Maintain accurate financial records
Ensure timely financial analysis and reporting of results against the financial plan
Prepare external financial statements and notes
Prepare the audit binder and lead the year-end audit process with auditors
Ensure regular reconciliation of balance sheet and certain income statement accounts
Prepare/review all journal entries
Oversee accounts payable to ensure vendors are paid accurately and on time
Oversee timely billing of non-energy customers
Ensure compliance with all appropriate agencies, including but not limited to: Ontario Energy Board (OEB), Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), Ministry of Energy, Ontario Power Authority (OPA)
Ensure compliance with Bill 198
Supervise five direct reports in the Accounting Department, and perform regular evaluations
Complete other projects and duties as required

Due to the seniority and impact of this role’s scope of responsibilities, we are seeking an experienced and highly reliable individual who can provide strong leadership. Demonstrated skills, abilities and certifications should include:

Post-secondary degree in Accounting, Business, Commerce, or Finance
Professional accounting designation (CA, CMA, or CGA)
Previous supervisory experience (mandatory)
Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP and IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards)
Excellent leadership and team-building abilities, including the ability to build relationships and rapport with others, work constructively with a team, and help solve issues
Excellent data analysis skills, with the ability to identify opportunities for improvement and develop/implement appropriate solutions
Strong computer skills, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and financial software, and comfort with a fully computerized environment
Exceptional time management skills and the ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment with rigid deadlines
