Manager of Special Projects

 

18-24 Month Contract Position

 

 

PowerStream Inc. is the second largest municipally-owned electricity distribution company in Ontario, providing service to more than 355,000 customers residing or owning a business in communities located immediately north of Toronto and in Central Ontario. It is jointly owned by the Cities of Barrie, Markham and Vaughan.

 

Purpose: Under the guidance of the Director of Energy Services, the Manager is responsible for leading select CDM and Smart Grid Home Energy Management projects. The Manager will develop and implement a workplan and offering that aligns with project objectives, corporate strategy, technical and system capabilities and customer preferences. The Manager will lead internal and external stakeholder management and be responsible for project performance targets. In addition, the Manager will provide leadership in partner management and support the development of a PowerStream go forward strategy and action plan in Home Energy Management. The Manager will lead or support other projects as required. This role will initially be contract with the opportunity to transition to permanent.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with all CDM and Smart Grid department staff, internal support services (legal, corporate communications, rocurement, IS, etc) and relevant external stakeholders (e.g. Project Partners, Ministry of Energy, Ontario Power Authority) to ensure successful completion of assigned Home Energy Management projects
  • Project management responsibilities will vary for each project, as required, but in general will include:
    • establishing terms of reference and project  team
    • leading internal and external stakeholder management
    • developing and managing project workplan
    • monitoring progress against workplan and  making adjustments as required
    • internal (and external, if applicable) communications on project status
    • post-project offering evaluation and potential funding applications to OPA
  • The Manager will be responsible for all  project customer service, operational, financial and timeline targets. 
  • The Manager will provide leadership in partner management and support the development of a PowerStream go forward strategy and action plan in Home Energy Management. This can include:
    • provide overviews on the North American home energy management and conservation industry trends and practices
    • develop/review pilot project business cases and make recommendations for senior management approval
    • negotiations with potential business partners
  • Accountable for adhering to the safety responsibilities of the job as per Management Procedure #HS-003-001 (Occupational Health & Safety Act Roles and Responsibilities).

 

Experience and Educational Requirements:

 

  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and partner opportunities
  • Strategic planning
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and stakeholder management
  • Strong consumer orientation and understanding
  • Experience in home energy management products and services is preferable
  • Knowledge of the energy industry and conservation landscape in Ontario is preferable
