Financial Analyst

 

 

Wellington North Power Inc, a small, progressive electricity distribution company in Wellington County serving 3,700 customers. The company is seeking a full-time, knowledgeable and highly motivated individual to assume the responsibilities of Financial Analyst.

 

Reporting to the President and CEO, the successful applicant shall be responsible for all financial, accounting, and records management functions, while ensuring all activities are in compliance with sound financial accounting practices.

 

Major responsibilities include:

  • Maintain accurate financial records and ability to complete year-end audit working papers.
  • Preparation of the annual capital, operating and maintenance budgets.
  • Analyzing financial, statistical information and monitors actual to budget revenues and expenditures, with the ability to identify opportunities for improvement and implementing appropriate solutions.
  • Preparation of financial information for filings to all regulatory bodies.
  • Ensuring financial controls, risk management and covenants are achieved (met).
  • Monitoring and reporting of the Company’s financial results and position.
  • Preparation and recordkeeping of all aspects of general accounting from trial balance to financial statements including Payroll, Accounts Payable/Receivable and Asset Management.

 

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in business or commerce
  • Recognized accounting designation (CA, CGA or CMA)
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting practices and procedures, with experience in financial analysis
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP and IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards)
  • Demonstrated communication and public relations skills
  • A proven team player with strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently
  • Exceptional time management skills and ability to succeed in a fast-pace environment with rigid deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Advanced proficiency in the use of accounting and computer software including Microsoft Great Plains and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience in an electricity distribution company environment would be an asset.
