SYSTEM CONTROL OPERATOR  (Day Shift)

ASSET OPERATIONS DIVISION

 

This positions report to the Supervisor, System Control. Preference is for a fully qualified System Control Operator. Consideration for an Apprentice System Control Operator may be given to candidates who possess a minimum of a Certified Technician diploma and are actively pursuing a C.Tech designation. 

Responsibilities 

  • Safe and reliable operation of the distribution network on a permanent 8 hour day shift
  • Administer the Utility Work Protection Code
  • Outage Planning Duties
  • Mentoring / Training
  • Respond to customer inquiries
  • Respond to Outage events
  • Dispatch work to our response teams
  • Maintain operating information, schematics and documentation
  • Analyze IOM and Distribution System requirements and document recommendations
  • Utilize IOM/ SCADA system to effectively manage the distribution network
  • Other duties as assigned 

Requirements 

  • Graduate from an accredited institute program in Electrical/ Electronics Technology
  • Certified Engineering Technician (C.E.T.)
  • Willingness and ability to successfully complete the 4 year EDA operator training program
  • Demonstrated analytical and conceptual skills are required
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills including strong interpersonal skills and customer service orientation is essential
  • PC experience, knowledge of SCADA, I/Dispatcher and AM/FM packages is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of protection and controls in a substation environment is an asset
  • Experience in switching up to 44kV and knowledge of generation are assets
  • Familiarity with EUSA utility work protection code is an asset
  • Willingness  to work an 8 hour permanent day shift with on call duties; apprentices must be willing to work a rotation shift arrangement as deemed appropriate. 
  • Teamwork, reliability and strong safety orientation are essential
  • Must be able to work calmly and effectively in dynamic outage conditions
  • Safe driving record with a satisfactory driver’s abstract 

Hourly rate:  Journeyman rate $42.33 per hour plus shift premiums (rate may vary depending upon qualifications and experience).
