JOURNEYMAN – POWERLINE TECHNICIAN

 

Niagara-on-the-Lake Hydro (NOTLH) currently has a vacancy for one (1) Journeyman Powerline Technician. NOTLH maintains and distributes electrical power to over 8,600 customers in the beautiful Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake. NOTLH employees operate as a small team; dedicated to offering superior service at fair rates while never sacrificing safety as the number one priority. 

The successful candidate will report to the Line Superintendent and work under the direction of the Lead-Hands. The candidate can expect to work in an environment in which he/she has regular interaction with all other employees of the company and thus have exposure to all facets of the business. You will work in a line crew in the construction and maintenance of the overhead and underground distribution systems (up to and including 27.6kV). 

All new employees who shall be on-call, must live within thirty (30) minutes (automobile travel time under favourable driving conditions) from NOTLH office 8 Henegan Rd, Virgil, Ontario. New employees must establish such residency not later than six (6) months after completion of their probationary period. 

The successful candidate must possess the following qualifications: 

  • Certification as a Powerline Technician Journeyman or equivalent, licensed to work in Ontario

  • Valid class DZ Ontario Driver’s Licence and a clean abstract

  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma – Minimum of Grade 12

  • Competent in the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of the overhead and underground electrical distribution system

  • Ability to read and interpret distribution system construction drawings and supporting documents.

  • Must have a good safety record and have demonstrated safe working habits and mechanical aptitude

  • Safety is a condition of employment; must have a high regard for personal and public safety

  • Knowledgeable and competent of IHSA (Formerly E&USA) Safety Rules, Occupational Health & Safety Act, ESA Ontario Reg. 22/04, Utility Work Protection Code, WHMIS, CPR, First Aid and all other applicable legislation

  • Proven ability to work effectively and safely in a team setting and follow instructions by peers

  • Must have good communication skills both orally and written, including ability to maintain good logs and other records 

  • Good knowledge of computer applications

  • Good interpersonal skills especially dealing with customers

  • Excellent physical condition to perform all tasks associated with work in all outdoor elements, with the ability to climb and work confidently at heights of up to 60 feet
