METER TECHNICIAN

Power Systems Division

 

Under the general direction of the Electrical and Maintenance Supervisor, is responsible to continuously and accurately meter power consumption and demand for all hydro customers and to ensure proper meter installation, testing and record keeping.  

Qualifications: 

Mandatory:  

A MEARIE Journeyman Meter Technician Certificate.  Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent.  5 years electrical experience working in an Industrial Environment.  Valid Ontario Driver’s License with an excellent driving record.  Note:  A Driver’s Abstract will be processed by Thunder Bay Hydro to verify that the applicant has no more than 6 demerit points.  Competent with computer software applications.  Excellent problem solving and trouble-shooting skills.  Proven safety record and good knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code and Health and Safety Act.

Good customer relations, organizational, interpersonal and teamwork skills with a commitment to continuous improvement. 

Preferred: 

Electrical or Electronic Technician/Technologist Diploma.  Completion of meter training and or a digital metering course.  Knowledge of troubleshooting PT and CT Instrument Transformers.  Knowledge of E&USA Rules.  IP / WAN Networking experience.  Current certification in First Aid, CPR and WHMIS.
