JOURNEYMAN POWERLINE MAINTAINER
Waterloo North Hydro is a progressive electric distribution utility servicing the City of Waterloo, the Township of Wellesley and the Township of Woolwich. Our impressive team of 120 dedicated employees strives to provide a safe and reliable supply of electricity to 55,000 customers across a large urban and rural service area spanning 672 square km. Our focus is on service excellence from answering telephones to building, maintaining and operating the local power distribution system.
We are inviting applications for an experienced, competent team player with a strong work ethic, excellent mechanical aptitude, and a keen interest in all aspects of constructing and maintaining overhead and underground electricity distribution systems. The successful candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:
Certification as a Journeyman Powerline Technician including successful completion of the MEARIE (formerly MEA) Powerline Technician Training Program, or equivalent.
High regard for personal and public safety in a team setting.
Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and solid understanding of basic electric circuit theory.
A secondary school diploma with a minimum of Grade 12. A Community College Diploma in a Powerline Technician program, Electrical Technology or a related field is an asset.
Valid driver’s licence and excellent driving record. Applicant must be prepared to obtain a Class ‘AZ’ (restricted) licence within one year and maintain it in good standing.
Proven ability to work effectively and safely in a team setting.
Ability to work with confidence both aloft and within confined spaces.
Physically able to perform essential duties of the position including regular on-call duties and the ability to reliably respond to emergency call-outs within thirty minutes.
Potential candidates that are presently registered in the MEARIE or IHSA (formerly E&USA) Powerline Technician Training Program as fourth year apprentices may be considered.
The successful applicant will be assigned to various line crews and will be expected to work on and operate high voltage equipment at voltages ranging from 4.16 kV to 44 kV.
