CONTROLLER
A challenging and unique opportunity is available for a dynamic, highly motivated and proactive individual to manage the Financial Team and the Customer Service Team. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this position will be responsible for the leadership, strategy and planning of the accounting functions of the Company. The Controller provides direction and advice on financial reporting and accounting matters and is responsible for directing, coordinating and maintaining the accounting system to ensure it accurately reflects the financial position of the Corporation.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage a team of people, including both management and unionized staff
Ensures Senior Management and Board of Directors are supplied with complete, accurate and timely corporate reporting and performance measurement information
Appraise the organization’s financial position and issues periodic financial statements and operating reports as required by the CFO
Plan and direct year-end audits and any other special audits as required
Liaises with internal and external auditors as well as all tax authorities
Assess, develop and implement internal financial controls, policies and procedures in accordance with Company objectives
Design financial business processes to ensure efficiency and proper controls
Responsible for ensuring financial reporting practices remain current including the transition from General Accepted Accounting Principles to International Financial Reporting Standards
Responsible for the financial component of the Enterprise Resource Planning system (Microsoft Dynamics / Great Plains)
Support and oversee Accounting staff in ongoing processing of A/R, A/P and payroll
Assist in the development and ongoing evaluation of risk management processes
Coordinate preparation of annual budget and works closely with operational staff
Oversees the Customer Service and Billing Team
Oversees annual insurance renewal, policy review and manage claims processes
Liaise with Engineering and Operations to assist with updating and maintenance of Asset Management Systems
Education & Experience Requirements:
University Degree in Business or related field
Professional Accounting designation (CPA)
5 years of relevant management experience
Billing / Customer Service experience is an asset
Thorough knowledge of utility financial procedures and GAAP/IFRS
Well-developed skills with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics – Great Plains is an asset

Orillia Power Corporation with approximately 50 employees has two subsidiary companies, Orillia Power Distribution Corporation (OPDC) and Orillia Power Generation Corporation (OPGC).
