Project Engineer, Hydro Distribution
Following the Project Engineer’s review of the project estimate, budget, commercial and the technical review of the project, the Project Engineer directs, coordinates and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration and completion of engineering and construction requirements within the scope of a specified project.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides input onto planning and implements an engineering and construction program, including defining the project plan, activities, milestones, and manpower requirements
Provide technical guidance to design staff.
Review design drawings from Hydro designers, provide comments and approve drawings for construction.
Manage design sub contractors
Provides status report of project milestones and adjustment to schedules
Controls expenditures within limitations of project budget
Identifies project manpower requirements
Work with junior engineers toward their designation.
Assist Manager in attending meetings as required for project review and design program attainment
Coordinates preparation and delivery of project deliverables, design documents, as built drawings, turnover documents, etc.
Oversees project personnel to specific phases or aspects of the project such as technical plans
Reviews project design for compliance with engineering principles, standards, customer contract requirements and related specifications
Coordinates activities relating to technical developments, scheduling and resolving engineering design issues
Evaluates and recommends design changes, specifications and drawing releases
Interfaces with customers to provide project status reports and ensure customer needs are met
Provides status and progress reports to customer, project team, and management
Active involvement in quality assurance with regards to understating and implementing policies and procedures
Provides estimating and project management back-up as required
Performs such other duties and responsibilities as assigned by his/her supervisor/manager
Develop and write reports, business correspondence
Project forecasting, budgeting and tracking
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Minimum of 10 years of experience with Hydro Distribution Engineering projects
Proficient with the use of computers and software, particularly AutoCAD, Microstation and MS Office (minimum 5 years with Microstation)
Post secondary education in Civil or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
Sound knowledge and experience with CAD applications and practices
Valid class “G” Ontario driver’s license and own transportation
Excellent verbal, written and communication skills
Excellent safety and attendance record and previously demonstrated strong safety awareness
Self motivated, ability to learn new skills, assume new responsibilities and work cooperatively in a team
