President and Chief Executive Officer

A champion of QEC’s vision, mission, values, and corporate goals and objectives

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC), a Territorial Corporation wholly owned by the Government of Nunavut (GN), generates and distributes electrical energy to Nunavummiut through the operation of 26 diesel generation plants in 25 communities. QEC also provides mechanical, electrical and line maintenance from three regional centres, and administers billings and the Corporation’s human resource, information technology, and financial activities from offices in Baker Lake.

The Corporation’s vision is to provide the communities of Nunavut with a safe, reliable, sustainable and economical energy supply and service, through an empowered and accountable workforce that is representative of Nunavut’s population and reflective of Inuit societal values.

QEC is seeking a new President & Chief Executive Officer to lead the Corporation, and work closely with a dedicated and engaged Minister Responsible for QEC, QEC’s Board of Directors and senior management team, and 25 municipalities to implement QEC’s Corporate Plan (2015-2019) and realize its mission – in alignment with GN priorities and policies. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President & CEO will review priorities, and participate in developing and implementing long-term corporate/strategic plans for QEC as well as yearly business plans aligned with the Corporate Plan – ensuring transparency, diligent oversight, and that the appropriate resources (human, financial, physical plant, equipment and technology) are in place to successfully implement these plans.

A results-oriented leader with a collaborative, inclusive style, the President & CEO will inspire, motivate and manage a talented senior management team and staff to achieve yearly business plans’ goals and objectives, and ensure a strong, customer-focused and engaged work culture. Both a strategist and an operator, as well as an excellent listener and communicator, he/she will ensure a strong two-way communications strategy and plan – internally and externally – and build and sustain sound working relationships with multiple stakeholders at all levels. This is an exceptional career opportunity for a lifelong learner who keeps abreast of developing trends, issues, best practices and emerging technologies, and can be a strong steward of QEC’s mission, values and resources, establish trust and credibility with the Board of Directors, and ensure open, accurate and timely reporting, and diligent accountability.

As the new President & CEO, you will have a relevant post-secondary education or equivalent relevant, progressive senior leadership and management experience in the regulated energy/power business (24/7 service delivery, safety and security priorities). Your track record of accomplishments speaks to your strengths as a manager (organizational management, government relations, labour relations, HR management, finance and marketing), and success in working in challenging geographies and spread-out service areas, as well as with indigenous peoples and their communities. You combine business/financial acumen with political acuity, are adept at capital planning and asset management, and are prepared to work effectively with government leaders and officials to advance QEC’s mission and strategic priorities. Most importantly, you have a proven ability to develop, promote and mentor people, and rally others around a shared vision to deliver planned results.
