The Opportunity
We are seeking multiple Powerline Maintainers to participate in the internal Apprenticeship program to develop skill and expertise to address our overhead and underground maintenance and construction requirements. You will report to various Operations Supervisors and work in close collaboration with the Work Methods & Training team.
Progression to journeyperson requirements encompass achieving all specified milestones associated with 8,000 hours on-the-job underground and overhead training in both maintenance and construction areas. Educational requirements include the successful completion of the MEARIE Powerline Technician program or the MEARIE Cableperson program.
At the conclusion of the Apprenticeship program, you will continue to participate in a rotation that is focused on meeting the operational requirements of the company.
Education
Minimum of Grade 12 or Academic equivalent
Post-secondary relevant education highly preferred
Electrical courses / equivalent required; electrical work experience preferred
Requirements:
Demonstrated Mechanical and Technical (math, science) aptitudes evidenced through experience, or in completion of shop courses, post-secondary education, outside interests / hobbies
Electrical experience and/or education
Excellent Health including capacity to do physically rugged work outdoors in temperature extremes
Confidence in working at heights up to 70 feet in an aerial device and/or on a pole
Teamwork, reliability, positive attitude and strong safety orientation are essential
Good oral and written communication skills
Commitment to work overtime, afternoon shifts, emergency call-outs, etc., as required
Background information:
The selection process will consist of: Extensive pre-screening, interviewing, aptitude and practical testing.
Pre-qualified applicants will then undergo intensive competency evaluation such as: Written tests on mechanical and electrical theory, followed by physical tests (preceded by training) such as pole work and cable work. The evaluation testing is designed to simulate actual working conditions. Successful applicants will undergo further extensive evaluation during a 5 month probationary period for confirmation of admission to the program.How to Apply
