SUPERVISOR, HYDRO OPERATIONS

 

Collus PowerStream is responsible for the distribution of electricity to the citizens of the Town of Collingwood and the Towns of Stayner, Thornbury and Creemore. In total it serves close to 16,511 residential, commercial and industrial electricity customers. The Town of Collingwood with a population of 27,353 is centrally located in the heart of Ontario’s finest four-season destination area approximately one hour north of Toronto on the shore of Nottawasaga Bay (Lake Huron). Collingwood offers a combination of old time charm and history with the best recreation in Southern Ontario. 

Collus PowerStream has an opening for a Supervisor, Hydro Operations in their Hydro Department. This position is responsible for providing field supervision over crews involved in all aspects of construction and maintenance of the overhead and underground electricity distribution systems. This position reports to the Manager, Hydro Services. 

The successful candidate must possess the following qualifications and abilities: 

  • Certification as a Powerline Technician

  • Five to ten years of utility experience, with an operations background

  • Supervisory experience in a unionized environment

  • Valid DZ driver’s licence and clean abstract

  • Competent in the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of the electrical distribution system.

  • Ability to read and interpret distribution system construction drawings and supporting documents.

  • Must have a good safety record and have demonstrated safe working habits and mechanical aptitude.

  • Expert knowledge of E&USA Safety Rules, Occupational Health & Safety Act, ESA Ontario Reg. 22/04, Utility Work Protection Code, WHMIS, CPR, First Aid and all other applicable legislation

  • Positive, proactive and forward thinking approach – high energy level, comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities

  • Seasoned leadership skills as well as excellent administrative, communication, technical and conceptual skills

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex problems, adapt to new and rapidly changing situations.

  • Ability to supervise and coordinate efficient use of time and safety with assigned line crew for all inside and outside operations.

  • Ability to promote effective communication and positive labour management relations. 

  • A demonstrated ability of excellent attendance.

  • Supervise, instruct and assist in evaluating performance, apply corrective discipline, assist with the assessment of training requirements, enforce rules and regulations

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, staff, other departments, municipal departments, suppliers, and contractors

  • Must have good communication skills both orally and written, including ability to maintain good logs and other records.

  • Working knowledge of Word and Excel; familiarity with GIS & SCADA an asset

  • Familiarity with Apple mobile devices (iPhone & iPad) would be an asset

  • Must be physically able to perform all tasks associated with the work in all outdoor elements; extensive field supervision is required.

  • Must have a high regard for personal and public safety.
