ASSET MANAGEMENT & PLANNING TECHNICIAN

 

Reporting to the Manager, Planning & Maintenance in the Asset Services - Engineering department, this position will: 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates in gathering, developing and maintaining key asset condition information used in the capital planning process.

  • Participate in the development of procedures and processes to collect and maintain data records.

  • Complete Business case documentation, supported with comparisons to alternate solutions.

  • Prepare detailed estimates and initial drawings for future Capital projects for use in preparation of accurate budgets.

  • Analyze previous projects costs, compare to estimate to understand where discrepancies exist and improve process.

  • Identify impacts that may affect construction scheduling such as distribution system loading or backup security, or long lead equipment procurement.

  • Compile and maintain the Capital project plan through entry of information of data into reporting systems, such as Great Plains, Worktech and Excel as appropriate.

  • Produce capital budget update documents/summary reports to be used in Quarterly Capital project reviews.

  • Complete detailed analyses of Veridian Asset Condition with information gathered from regular maintenance activities and special inspections, if required, and incorporate appropriate replacement/upgrade plans in the annual Capital program.

  • Review and update ongoing Maintenance program and data collection requirements.

  • Ensure that “as built” conditions are reflected in drawings, files, system operating maps and the Geographic Information System for all equipment and projects as assigned.

  • Assist Distribution Engineer in completion of fault level requests, fusing coordination studies and update of reports.

  • Be familiar with CEA, CSA, IHSA (was E&USA), ESA, IEEE, NETA etc. 

  • Prepare and issue material lists, cost estimates, inspections, work orders, work instructions, maps and drawings for assigned maintenance programs and activities. 

  • Prepare, issue, review and recommend for award Requests for Pricing (RFPs) for programs/activities to be completed by outside contractors. 

  • Manage assigned maintenance programs/activities through ongoing administration and monitoring of activities, progress, costs and billing completed by both company staff and outside contractors.

  • Assess contractor performance and address any non-compliances. 

  • Regular site visits/inspections of contractors required with particular emphasis on compliance with appropriate health and safety practices. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5 to 7 years relevant experience and 2 years Community College or equivalent.

  • Must be registered with OACETT as a Certified Engineering Technician or Technologist in the Province of Ontario in the Electrical discipline or a graduate of a full time college course in electrical technology that would lead to certification.

  • Proficient in other Microsoft Office Applications, GIS and Computer Assist Design (CAD) systems.
