JOURNEYMAN LINEPERSON

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

This position reports directly to the Field Supervisor in the Ajax location and is responsible for the daily activities as follows:

  • Be familiar with all safe work practices as set out by IHSA and company standards and work in conformity to those practices.

  • Perform all construction and maintenance practices in connection with overhead, submarine and underground cable systems; install underground/submarine and overhead high and low voltage cable; set foundations for pad mounted equipment and install transformers and switching devices.

  • Be able to operate bucket truck, radial boon derricks, tensioning machines, boats, ATV’s, snowmobiles, off-road equipment, hydraulic equipment and all other equipment and tools used in line maintenance and construction.

  • Be familiar with measurement devices and carry out test procedures as required, testing for potential, measuring current using clip on ammeters, measuring withstand voltages with hi-pot equipment and location cable faults.

  • Be familiar with and carry out live line work practices and techniques on the systems including Bare Hand techniques, stick work and Rubber Glove techniques.

  • Respond to trouble calls and public emergencies regarding power outages, unsafe situations, service reconnections or enlist co-workers for assistance and dispatch as required.

  • Be available to perform regular stand-by duty and emergency call outs.

  • Travel to other areas within Veridian’s jurisdiction to help with emergency restoration including overnight trips. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Powerline Technician Certificate.

  • Completed High School or equivalent.

  • C.V.P. & Veridian’s Standards.

  • Other training – Class AR/D Z driver’s license, Chainsaw Operation, Propane Certification, Lift Truck Certification, Work Protection Code Certification, CPR/First Aid Certification, Boat Operators License, Helicopter Safety course, Live Line Techniques, Underground Proficiency, IHSA Safety Training and Updates. 

  • Overhead/underground maintenance and construction, organization, communication and troubleshooting skills.

  • Good knowledge of safety rules and safe work practices.
