METER TECHNICIAN

 

Oakville Hydro’s Operations Department is seeking a highly qualified individual in the position of Meter Technician.  Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, the Meter Technician is responsible for the installation and maintenance of residential, commercial, industrial and wholesale metering, provision of power call service and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) support. 

Duties include:

  • Install, replace, verify and maintain single and three-phase power meters and metering equipment in compliance with Measurement Canada regulations

  • Maintain and support AMI system including smart meter rf communications

  • Install, replace and maintain primary meter units

  • Install, replace and maintain multi-residential meter systems

  • Complete service orders and required documentation, and input into CIS system

  • Operate meter test console

  • Install and monitor power recording equipment and produce associated reports

  • Respond to customer power and billing concerns and produce associated reports

  • Work in compliance with all health and safety and environmental legislation including, but not limited to, the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and Oakville Hydro’s Policies and Procedures

  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor 

Qualifications and Success Factors:

  • Completion of grade 12 high school and post-secondary education with an Electrical or Electronic Technician diploma

  • Recognized Mearie Trades Training – Meter Technician  

  • Basic personal computer skills (Knowledge of Microsoft applications would be an asset)

  • Ability to work effectively with hand tools and ability to use various power recording devices

  • Valid Class G Ontario Drivers Licence and an excellent driving record

  • Demonstrated behaviour as a motivated individual possessing excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills 

  • Excellent safety and attendance record and previously demonstrated strong safety awareness

  • Well versed in the Infrastructure Health & Safety Association (IHSA) Safe Work practices guide
