HUMAN RESOURCES OFFICER

 

PUC Services Inc. operates multiple utilities within and around the City of Sault Ste. Marie, including the supply and delivery of electricity and drinking water, energy services and the treatment of water and wastewater.

You are the ideal candidate if you possess:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Community College Diploma in Human Resources or a related field.

  • Professional designation as a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) or working towards completion of the designation;

  • Minimum of three [3] years related work experience in a Human Resources related function.

  • Intermediate to Advanced Levels in Microsoft Office, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, with good working knowledge of Human Resources and/or Payroll Information Systems. 

  • Knowledge of appropriate legislation in the field of labour, employment, human rights, WSIB, benefits, salary administration and privacy.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in decisions regarding confidential matters, ability to work independently and to take initiative.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong time management skills and ability to multi-task within deadlines.

As Human Resources Officer, the primary responsibilities of this position are as follows:

  • Leads staff recruitment to ensure appropriately qualified staff is selected through interviews, skill testing, reference verification, medicals, and pre-employment conditions. 

  • Maintains the employee database including all changes in employment status of bargaining unit and management employees in the Cayenta HR Module ensuring all hires, transfers and promotions are accurately documented in accordance with applicable HR standards, legislation and Company policies.

  • Coordinates and maintains the training database including course outlines and provides necessary reports on all corporate and health & safety training.

    • Assists the Manager, Human Resources with research of the grievances, compensation, collective agreement settlements as well as interpretation of labour agreements, implementation and interpretation of personnel-related policies and employment related legislation.
  • Composes organizational charts, updates seniority lists, prepares and proofs reports, correspondence and other documents such as labour agreements, etc.

  • Maintains all personnel, health, WSIB, training, grievance and other HR files and databases.

  • Sources, schedules and provides feedback on appropriate training resources and training providers to deliver cost effective, quality training.
