ENERGY EFFICIENCY ADVISOR

 

Waterloo North Hydro Inc. WNH is current seeking an Energy Efficiency Advisor to join our Energy Efficiency (EE) team.  Reporting to the Manager, Energy Efficiency and Corporate Communications, you will be a key member of the EE customer outreach and engagement team.  You will be responsible for working with an assigned group of WNH’s Commercial, Institutional, and Industrial (CI&I) customers and assisting with their energy efficiency projects and energy management activities.  This role will work closely with program stakeholders including internal resources, customers, associations, channel partners, and non-government organizations (NGO’s) by providing training, support, site visits, basic assessments, business case development and application and project recommendations. 

The ideal candidate will be a graduate of a post-secondary engineering, environmental business program or equivalent with two years’ experience in the energy efficiency / management sector specifically with a focus on account management, sales or business development.  Your advanced communication skills, client management, and focus on customer service will assist with the delivery of CI&I Stakeholder support.  A working understanding of electrical theory, electromechanical systems, lighting systems, HVAC, and building science supported by a background in industrial processes or in energy application in a commercial and industrial environment is preferred.  Experience with an Ontario-based utility, the Independent Electricity System Operator, or EE programs, CEM, CMVP, CET, and P. Eng designations considered an asset. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Program Administration and Management

  • Manage a group of assigned customers and provide ongoing energy efficiency and energy management support

  • Research, assess, and report on EE potential for all assigned customers by working with customer facilities staff, suppliers, and service providers to assist in determination of EE opportunities

  • Develop and present EE business cases to customers for participation in EE programs

  • Assist customers in preparing applications for incentives and through the application process and act as applicant representative when necessary for all CI&I EE programs

  • Provide historical reports and forecasts of demand and consumption reduction related to customer participation in EE programs

  • Write reports on all customer visits that include action items and redirect customer concerns to the appropriate WNH department

  • Coordinate feasibility studies and professional audits as required

  • Develop and maintain relationships with channel partners, suppliers and service providers for the purpose of proposing EE measures to customers

  • Field EE customer inquiries and program issues via email, phone, and in-person

  • Assist in development and delivery of marketing, education, training material, presentations, and events to internal staff, customers, and channel partners 

     

  • Maintain database of customer intelligence through added survey of customer opportunities

  • Remain current on of EE program rules, processes and any changes, industry and market  developments and new technologies

  • Perform administrative record keeping, tracking, and reporting as required

  • Assist EE team as necessary in preparing the business plans and annual budgets 

Performance Monitoring and Reporting

  • Regularly capture and relay insights and customer feedback obtained during program outreach, customer interaction and application assistance processes
  • Identify possible approaches to improve customer application process/experience
  • Provide support in preparation of quarterly and annual reports and budgetary reconciliation as required 

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION REQUIRED 

Skills and Expertise:

  • Familiar with LDC CI&I EE Programs

  • Intermediate knowledge of energy end uses, energy efficiency/demand management technologies energy management practices, and electrical systems in a CI&I setting

  • Advanced skills in account management, customer engagement and relationship management

  • Intermediate skills in the use of computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications

  • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills

  • Intermediate experience in account management or sales in energy sector, or similar technical field

  • Intermediate skills in project management and in coordinating and managing contracted services and projects

  • Basic knowledge of rate structures, distribution system and electricity generation in Ontario

  • Ability and willingness to learn and take on new challenges

  • Ability to work cooperatively with others in a team environment

  • Requires a valid Class “G” driver’s license with a good driving record 

Knowledge/Education:

  • Graduate of a post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field (i.e. engineering, science, environmental business, or other related filed) or equivalent

  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and manage multiple projects

  • Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze multiple sources of information to prepare a variety of reports

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of utility industry regulations, information systems, and efficiency related technologies

  • Demonstrated ability to foster relationships with NGO’s, Government Bodies, Chamber of Commerce, and other distribution companies (electricity, gas, and water)

  • Basic understanding of Occupational Health and Safety requirements as it relates to individual, organizational, and operational requirements
