DESIGN TECHNICIAN

The Design Technician is responsible for the design and estimating of overhead and underground distribution systems for residential, commercial and industrial applications as well as street light design projects. This role also requires that you prepare and issue work orders, detailed estimates and material lists along with distribution standards, specifications, and evaluation of tenders. Your knowledge of legislative standards are key to ensuring compliance with business codes, ESA, CSA, OEB, Easements, bylaws, etc. This position also provides support and backup to the Service Coordinator, Underground Inspector, and Mapping and Surveying Technician’s during periods of vacation or peak activity.
This position will appeal to a highly motivated self-starter who can make a significant contribution to a changing environment. Applicants must have proven time management skills and a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects within tight timelines. Previous experience in an electrical utility or related experience in the design of electrical distribution systems is considered an asset. A high level of computer competency is also required including a proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office products, PLS CADD and Lighting Software. A post-secondary diploma as an Engineering Technician or Technologist with a C.Tech. or C.E.T. designation is required. The successful applicant will also have a valid Class G driver’s license in good standing and their own transportation.
