Burlington Hydro maintains 32 substations and almost 1,600 kilometers of medium voltage distribution lines to deliver electricity. The company is wholly owned by the City of Burlington.
Electrical Operator
(consideration may be given to Apprentice entry level up to Journey level applicants)
Reporting to the Director of Operations, you will work toward position objectives at ever increasing levels of responsibility based on direction from the Director and relative to your training and experience; objectives include but are not limited to the following:
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following:
Successful completion (Diploma) of a 3 year College level Technologist program in a related field; or equivalent experience if a Journey level applicant
MEARIE Journeyperson Electrical Operator Certificate or recognized equivalent; if an apprentice level, the ability and willingness to achieve same
Full certification in the Ontario Utility Work Protection Code; or the ability and willingness to acquire same
Demonstrated knowledge of the following systems: System Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA); Customer Information System (CIS); Geographic Information System (GIS); and Auto CAD
Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office applications – Word, Access and Excel
Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills including reading comprehension, with the ability to communicate clearly in English; excellent mathematical skills
Excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills; a good work ethic with a positive approach to work and coworkers; energetic and motivated with an excellent attendance record
Demonstrated ability to remain calm and thoughtful in a stressful environment with the ability to adapt to changing priorities
Possess and maintain a level of physical fitness essential to do the work
Ability and willingness to work on a rotating 7/24 shift schedule 365 days of the year, and to be readily available for on-call and emergency duties; with the ability and willingness to respond and be in the Control Room within one hour
Possess and maintain a valid and clean abstract with a class “G” Ontario driver’s license; current First Aid and CPR Certification considered an asset
This is a full time position located in Burlington. This is a unionized position and includes 24/7 shifts, compensation and benefits in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
