POSITION SUMMARY

This position involves the construction, maintenance and operation of the overhead and underground electrical system.

 

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma
  • E.D.A. Journeyperson Lineman certificate
  • 3-5 years Journeyperson Lines experience
  • Experience in all aspects of line construction and power line maintenance
  • A valid Class “AZ” license
  • CPR and First Aid Training certificate
  • Must obtain or be eligible to obtain Utility Work Protection Code Certification
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skillsPOSITION FUNCTIONS 
  • Using approved live line techniques, the power lineman will construct and maintain lines and equipment energized from 120 volts to 44,000 volts on both overhead and underground plant applications
  • Installation of poles and associated hardware for the construction of power lines
  • String conductor using conventional and non-conventional stringing methods
  • Perform maintenance work, repairs, trouble shoot all Utility electrical equipment
  • Install and maintain electrical equipment such as transformers, oil re-closures & switches
  • Proficient in the use of insulated aerial devices, radial boom derricks, tension stringing equipment, underground fault locating equipment and cable tracing equipment
  • Must be able to install single phase metering equipment
  • Must be able to perform line trimming and clearing duties
  • Must be able to climb poles utilizing fall arrest equipment  
  • Must understand and comply with Ontario Traffic Manual, Field Edition, Book 7,
  • IHSA, OHSA, Reg 22/04, other policies, procedures & rules
  • Able to work from instruction orders, specification standards, sketches and interpret power and distribution schematics
  • Be able to accept on-call and shift duties SAFETY 
  • Thorough knowledge, participation in training and enforcement of IHSA rules and practices, Occupational Health and Safety, and Company policies to ensure the safety of employees, the public and property.
