Senior Substation Technologist / Technician:

K.P.C. Power Electrical Ltd. is a private ‘High-Voltage’ contractor specializing in power-systems maintenance and commissioning. While servicing many local municipal utilities, as well as private industrial and institutional facilities, we continue to expand and grow at a substantial pace. 

KPC Power has a position available for a Senior Substation Technologist / Technician. This position is responsible for providing technical field services and potential supervision over crews involved in all aspects of substation maintenance and commissioning of utility and industrial ‘High-Voltage power systems and substations. 

This position reports to the Operations Manager. 

The successful candidate must possess the following qualifications and abilities: 

• College or University degree in the related field of study, with Certified Engineering Technician or Technologist designation, or Professional Engineering designation or equivalent, or aspirations of becoming certified.
• Five to ten years of substation maintenance / commissioning experience
• Valid ‘G’ driver’s license and clean abstract
• Competent in the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of any electrical distribution system
• Ability to read and interpret distribution system construction drawings and supporting documents.
• Must have a good safety record and have demonstrated safe working habits and mechanical aptitude.
• Understanding of E&USA Safety Rules, Occupational Health & Safety Act, ESA Ontario Reg. 22/04, Utility Work Protection Code, WHMIS, CPR, First Aid and all other applicable legislation.
• Positive, proactive and high energy level, comfortable performing all activities within a power system in conjunction with day-to-day activities
• Demonstrated ability to analyze complex problems, adapt to new and rapidly changing situations
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, customers, and other contractors
• Must have good communication skills both orally and written
• Strong working knowledge of Word and Excel; and all other computer necessities (Outlook / Email)
• Familiarity with Apple mobile devices (iPhone) would be an asset
• Must be physically able to perform all tasks associated with the work in all outdoor elements
• Must have a high regard for personal and public safety.
