JOURNEYPERSON AND/OR APPRENTICE LINEPERSON

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

This position reports directly to the Field Supervisor in the Ajax location and is responsible for the daily activities as follows:

  • Be familiar with and follow the Electrical Utility Safety Rules and all safe work practices as set out by IHSA.
  • Be familiar with construction and maintenance practices in connection with overhead, underground and submarine cable systems.
  • Be able to operate an aerial device, radial boon derrick, tension machines, cable puller, boat, ATV, snowmobile, off-road equipment, hydraulic equipment and all other equipment and tools used in line maintenance and construction.
  • Be familiar with measurement devices and carry out test procedures as required.
  • Be familiar with all live line work practices and techniques including Rubber Glove Work, Stick Work and Bare Hand techniques.
  • Be familiar with working on a wide range of voltages (4160V to 44000V).
  • Respond to trouble calls and public emergencies regarding power outages, unsafe situations, and service reconnections.
  • Be available to perform regular on-call duty.
  • Travel to other areas within Veridian’s jurisdiction to help with emergency restoration including overnight trips. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Powerline Technician Certificate
  • Completed High School or equivalent.
  • IHSA Safety Training and Electrical Utilities Safety Rules Training
  • Valid Class D Z (minimum) Driver’s License, Chainsaw Operation, Propane Certification, Lift Truck Certification, Utility Work Protection Code Certification, CPR/First Aid Certification, Boat Operators License, Helicopter Safety course.
  • Proficient organization, communication and troubleshooting skills.
