CONSERVATION ENERGY MANAGER

(CONTRACT POSITION)

 

Newmarket -Tay Power Distribution Ltd. (NT Power) distributes electricity to 26,000 customers primarily within the Town of Newmarket and 5,000 customers in Tay Township. Newmarket is located in the northern GTA within the Region of York. Tay Township is approximately one hour north of Newmarket along the shores of Georgian Bay. 

NT Power is seeking a Conservation Energy Manager for our Newmarket Office. The successful candidate will report to the President and will be responsible for all aspects of the corporation’s conservation and demand management (CDM) program. 

NT Power is a member of CustomerFirst, a collaborative of six LDCs including: Greater Sudbury Utilities, Northern Ontario Wires Inc., PUC Services Inc., North Bay Hydro Services, and St. Thomas Energy Inc., that has filed a Joint CDM Plan. The Conservation Energy Manager will be expected to work with CustomerFirst to ensure success in meeting the targets contained in the Joint Plan. 

Primary Responsibilities 

Technical: 

  1. Promote and deliver CDM programs to the different customer classes; residential, commercial and industrial.
  2. Set out the most cost effective means of promoting and implementing STEI specific and province-wide CDM programs.
  3. Manage promotional events such as tradeshows, home shows, local promotions and customer presentation.
  4. Collaborate with other electric and gas utilities as appropriate to achieve the CDM targets.
  5. Assist with the annual updates to the CDM Plan as required in accordance with the Conservation First Framework.
  6. Routinely present CDM program status and statistics to the Management Team including confidential customer information.
  7. Track the status of individual customer projects. Work closely with the President to identify, quantify, and report projects in progress, including timelines required for completion of each stage. Identify and issues requiring attention.
  8. Monitor, modify and report customer incentive payments and processes on an ongoing basis. 
  9. Maintain a solid understanding of the Ontario and North American conservation industry, including trends and practices with regard to: programs (design, delivery and evaluation), budgets, targets, and emerging technologies/approaches.
  10. Provide benchmarking and control measures to the President.

Reporting: 

  1. Carries out regulatory reporting requirements under the Green Energy Act and Conservation First Framework to the OEB and IESO. This includes the Mid-Term review for the Conservation First Framework currently scheduled to occur no later than June 1, 2018.
  2. Prepares concise written reports of energy efficiencies including estimates of energy savings and other benefits.
  3. Coordinates and provides support to Engineering & Operations for metering and other aspects of CDM.
  4. Communicates standards and operating procedures.
  5. Provides information on results of energy and sustainability efforts.

Supervision: 

  1. Assist third party service providers to ensure they are delivering on their agreements in a timely manner and in accordance with the agreed to fees.
  2. Assist with the activities and delivery from other resources such as CustomerFirst staff, Energy Managers, etc. 

Skills / Knowledge/Education /

Experience Required: 

Skills: 

  • Demonstrates initiative, organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Budgeting to implement and manage energy conservation programs.
  • Regulatory reporting to the OEB and IESO.
  • Advanced computer skills, including experience with database structures and the design of queries.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Excel, including advanced data analysis functions, and strong oral and written communication skills. 

Knowledge / Education: 

  • University degree in Engineering, Science or Environmental fields; or College diploma with relevant experience.
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) designation is an asset.
  • Certified Measurement & Verification Professional (CMVP) designation is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Green Energy Act and Conservation First Framework, environmental legislation, Ontario Energy Board legislation and codes.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario building code would be an asset.
  • Solid Analytical and technical skills relating to electrical energy efficiency products and services.
  • Knowledge of energy conservation technologies that can be implemented in the residential, commercial and industrial customer sites.
  • Demonstrates written, oral and presentation skills for various audiences. 

Experience: 

A minimum 2 – 4 years related work experience.
