METER TECHNICIAN/APPRENTICE

Power Systems Division

 

Under the general direction of the Electrical and Maintenance Supervisor, this position is responsible for maintaining accurate revenue meter power consumption and demand equipment and to ensure proper meter installation, testing and record keeping for Thunder Bay Hydro’s customers. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Mandatory:

  • A MEARIE Journeyman Meter Technician Certificate or 3rd or 4th Year MEARIE Meter Technician Apprentice
  • Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • 5 years electrical experience working in an Electrical Utility

  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License with an excellent driving record. Note: A Driver’s Abstract will be processed by Thunder Bay Hydro to verify that the applicant has no more than 6 demerit points.
  • Competent with computer software applications.
  • Excellent problem solving and trouble-shooting skills.
  • Proven safety record and good knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Good customer relations, organizational, interpersonal and teamwork skills with a commitment to continuous improvement.

Preferred: 

  • Electrical or Electronic Technician/Technologist Diploma.
  • Completion of revenue meter training and or a digital metering course.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting PT and CT Instrument Transformers.
  • Knowledge of Electrical Utility Safety Rules (EUSR).

  • IP / WAN Networking experience.
  • Current certification in First Aid, CPR and WHMIS.

Thunder Bay Hydro May Also Consider Applications for a New Meter Technician Apprentice:

For candidates not holding a Meter Technician Certificate, or have status as a 3rd or 4th Year MEARIE Meter Technician Apprentice, the following may also be considered:

Mandatory:

  • Certification as an Inter-Provincial Journeyman Electrician (Construction & Maintenance).
  • Active Ontario Colleges of Trades (OCOT) Membership   
  • Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent.

  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License with an excellent driving record. Note: A Driver’s Abstract will be processed by Thunder Bay Hydro to verify that the applicant has no more than 6 demerit points.
  • Competent with computer software applications.
  • Excellent problem solving and trouble-shooting skills.
  • Proven safety record and good knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Good customer relations, organizational, interpersonal and teamwork skills with a commitment to continuous improvement.
