Electrical Engineer in Training

 

Are you an innovative problem-solver driven to acquire knowledge and demonstrating an eagerness to take ownership of diverse projects? London Hydro is seeking dynamic engineers like you to enhance its Engineering & Operations team.

Applying an analytical approach and sound judgment, you will support the initiatives of talented people working in various departments. The focus of this Electrical Engineer in Training role will be the completion of a four-year training program designed to provide you with a holistic comprehension of the local electricity distribution business. In addition to attending formal courses and completing self-study assignments, you will be given the opportunity to complete rotations in the Design, Planning, Operations, and Standards departments.

JOB DUTIES

As an Electrical Engineer in Training, you will be expected to:

  • Contribute to cross-functional teams to optimize the electrical distribution system.
  • Leverage GIS, OMS, SCADA, Metering, IT, and System Analysis tools to develop advanced engineering solutions that enhance productivity.
  • Analyze long-term trends and emergency operational issues.
  • Prepare designs and co-ordinate projects for the corporation’s capital investment plan.
  • Investigate protection and control issues, including hands-on troubleshooting in the field.
  • Maintain construction standards and specifications for equipment.
  • Liaise with consultants, developers, contractors and customers.
  • Prepare supporting documentation for regulatory submissions.
  • Use strong oral, written, presentation and interpersonal skills to achieve goals.
  • Apply the Utility Work Protection Code.
  • Adhere to all Occupational Health & Safety Act rules and regulations, IHSA safety rules, London Hydro Safe Work Practices, Environmental Policies and Health and Safety policies.
  • Perform other duties related to the above job purpose.

QUALIFICATIONS

To join our team as an Electrical Engineer in Training, you should have the following credentials:

  • Successful completion of a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree from a recognized university.
  • Eligibility to register with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) as an Engineer in Training (EIT).
