 SYSTEMS ANALYST

Guelph Hydro Electric Systems Inc. requires a Systems Analyst to work within the Information Systems Department. This position reports to the Manager of Applications and Development. The Systems Analyst will be a team player who has experience working with iSeries, Microsoft .Net, Third Party vendor software and SQL Server environments while supporting a wide variety of business applications. This is a professional level position that requires the following qualifications and attributes to be successful: 

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

    • You are a University/College graduate in a computer science environment.
    • You have a strong working knowledge of the iSeries operating system, CLE/RPGLE/400 programming languages and iSeries third party tools such as Cognos.
    • You have experience in programming/software life-cycle development using Microsoft .NET, C Sharp, Java and or similar object orientated programming languages and frameworks.
    • You have a strong working knowledge of current Windows operating systems.
    • You have experience with administering iSeries DB2 and Microsoft SQL server databases.
    • You possess exceptional I.T. knowledge to ensure your success as you maintain and support all computing hardware, software, network and environments, including hands-on responsibility for software installations.
    • You are aware of safety procedures and practices related to working with Information Systems, and consistently use such procedures and practices in your day-to-day work.
    • You are self-motivated with strong interpersonal skills, and have excellent project management skills.
    • You are flexible regarding hours of work, can be on-call when needed, and love to work in an environment which can be challenging and high-pressure.
    • You demonstrate high ethical standards, safeguard highly confidential data and provide support in Information Systems security related functions.
    • You can juggle the work load of multiple on-going projects.
    • You demonstrate the values of the company and exemplify strong ethics, respect and safety practices.
    • You are a fast learner, an innovator and have a passion for keeping up-to-date on all new technologies and changes that affect Information Systems, the users and the clients you serve in the company.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • You design, write and test computer programs developed to provide management information to end users.
    • You formulate statements of business problems and devise procedures for the solution of these problems.
    • You write programs utilizing a standard, structured methodology based on industry best practice.  
    • You assist with analysis, maintenance, design and programming of new/existing, computerized systems.
    • You design programs and implement system enhancements in cooperation with our internal user community.
    • You perform system maintenance as requested by the user community and authorized by the Manager of Applications and Development.
    • You provide analytical assistance to the programming area and computer operations area, including personal computers.
    • You provide support to the Manager in the setting up of training and development software.
    • You keep abreast of computer related technologies and techniques, especially knowledge that is specific to the utility industry.
    • You assume responsibility for maintaining documentation for all new and enhanced systems/programs.
    • You assume joint responsibility for a high level of internal control in all new and enhanced systems/programs.
    • You troubleshoot hardware and software failures to determine possible causes for system failure and to implement solutions.
    • You develop innovative and creative solutions to system problems.
    • You develop detail system documentation where applicable.
    • You develop detail test data that will verify that each individual program and overall system is functioning as intended.
    • You perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager of Applications and Development.
