Vice President, Business Development

 

Oshawa Power and Utilities Corporation (OPUC) serves through its wholly-owned subsidiaries, over 55,000 residents and businesses in the City of Oshawa. In addition to our primary mission of delivering safe and reliable electricity, we are dedicated to growing our innovative portfolio of new business enterprises in telecom and distributed generation services. While continuously honing our core regulated electricity distribution business; we are also following a new and exciting vision of growing our competitive businesses. 

Reporting to the President & CEO, the Vice President, Business Development, will have responsibility for expanding our fleet of on-site CHP and district energy assets to provide solutions to large energy consumers. The successful candidate will be a leader who thrives on generating new business while fostering existing relationships. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Developing a screening matrix for high quality business development opportunities
  • Establishing a pre-qualified pipeline of opportunities
  • Actively originate and conclude agreements with energy consumer/partners to commence construction of on-site CHP based energy generation and delivery solutions.
  • Provide regular updates to President & CEO regarding business performance and targets.
  • Develop goals and objectives while ensuring efficient utilization of financial resources to achieve established performance objectives. 
  • Develop and clearly articulate compelling business cases for new business development/sales models and manage their implementation within established time frames.
  • Manage complex contract negotiations and work with legal counsel as required.
  • Evaluate acquisition opportunities as appropriate to grow business and/or increase profitability.
  • Closely monitor intelligence about competition and report in a timely manner with recommendations, as appropriate. 

Key Qualifications: 

  • Must have Business Degree with a Sales and Marketing Major coupled with an undergraduate technical degree – Science/Engineering preferred.
  • Seasoned sales professional with a minimum of 5 years’ business development experience related to Combined Heat and Power systems or other distributed generation (engineering, hardware, operations) solutions.
  • Professional contract management training preferred
  • MUSH Sector (Municipalities, Universities, School Boards and Hospitals) client sales experience preferred
  • Experience in managing and negotiating legal contracts
  • Experience in financial analysis
  • Experience in setting sales forecasts and meeting targeted budgets
  • Proven ability to develop and implement marketing programs
  • Results-oriented professional; task and project focused
  • Strong leadership skills, exceptional business acumen and the strategic agility required to plan, lead and drive change
  • Strong customer focus, including ability to understand needs and apply this knowledge to the user experience and communications
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills being a persuasive speaker and writer who can communicate effectively with both internal management and external client/partner groups
  • Strong knowledge of rules and regulations within the distribution and retailing of electricity
