IT Technician (1-year Contract Position)
Newmarket-Tay Power Distribution Ltd. (NT Power) delivers power with pride to 35,000 customers within the Town of Newmarket and Tay Township. We require a highly-motivated IT Technician with exceptional verbal and written communication, analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills. The IT Technician supports the IT Manager in providing a complete package of IT support services. The successful candidate will thrive on people and detail, and excel at working in groups. Reporting to the IT Manager, you will work in a team environment at our head office at 590 Steven Court in Newmarket, Ontario. You will be the first and key IT contact for staff in Newmarket and Tay Township who require technical support as users, and for workstations and applications services. Your responsibilities will include maintaining the company website and intranet; supporting IT procurement initiatives (e.g., research to identify IT vendors); handling software licensing and compliance; and engaging with NT Power’s IT vendors to respond to requests and troubleshoot escalations. You will also provide operational support in areas such as backups, reports and telecoms.
As our IT Technician, you will support the IT Manager in implementing new initiatives such as establishing and supporting a helpdesk ticket system, expanding the company’s business process documentation, and developing business intelligence solutions.
To be considered for this position, you should have postsecondary education with a degree/diploma in Computer Sciences, Business, Engineering Technology or a related field; at least two years of experience in providing technical support, ideally in the energy and power generation sector; be familiar with the LDC industry; and have a Class “G” driver’s licence in good standing.
Your communication skills should include tact and diplomacy; and you should have the ability to multi-task and work collaboratively. Preference will be given to candidates with one or more of the following certifications at entry level or above: Cisco CCENT, Cisco CCT, Microsoft MTA, MCSA, MCSE, CISSP, CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+ and CSA+.
This is a 1-year contract position.
