Newmarket-Tay Power Distribution Ltd. (NT Power) delivers power with pride to 35,000 customers within the Town of Newmarket and Tay Township. Newmarket is located in the northern GTA within the Region of York. Tay Township is approximately one hour north of Newmarket along the shores of Georgian Bay. 

We have a requirement for an Operations Technician for our Newmarket Operations Centre (“NOC”). Temporary assignment from time to time to the Tay Operations Centre in Port McNicoll may be required. 

Reporting to the Manager of Technical Services, responsibilities of this position include:

  • Design, prepare cost estimates and work order packages for various electricity distribution system projects including overhead, underground and substations (for new, rebuild and subdivisions), new service design (residential, commercial, industrial), and streetlight systems, and obtain all necessary approvals required for construction in accordance with approved standards;
  • Construction site inspection to ensure work is done in accordance with our Construction Verification Program; gather and maintain field and office records for permanent records;
  • Maintain accurate technical information records including compilation and timely update of the GIS and other corporate information systems;
  • Prepares and provides input in the development of construction standards and material specifications;
  • Supply technical and installation specifications to others, including utility personnel, customers, contractors, regulators, road authorities and consultants;
  • Monitor and operate the distribution system with the SCADA system and other tools;
  • Assist in the arrangement for power outages including preparation of switching Orders to Operate and coordination with other Local Distribution Companies and supply authorities such as Hydro One;
  • Assist utility personnel in trouble shooting and restoration of power; take trouble calls during emergency power outages;
  • Must be willing and able to participate on rotational stand-by duties;
  • Assist in trouble shooting and maintaining substation equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with O.Reg. 22/04

QUALIFICATION PREREQUISITES:

  • Graduate of at least a 3-year Engineering Technology program. Preference will be given to those with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience.   Applicants for the position must be registered as a Certified Engineering Technologist with O.A.C.E.T.T. (or prove eligibility for registration).
  • Experience with USF standards, SCADA, microprocessor relays, and GIS systems, especially Survalent and ESRI-ArcFM, as well as other software applications (CYME, DNP3 protocol, Access, Arcmobile) will be an asset.  
  • Good working computer knowledge, including proficient with AutoCAD, AUD, Excel, Word Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Applicants must have an excellent safety and attendance record and strong safety awareness.
  • Must be highly motivated team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with both internal and external clients.
