President and Chief Executive Officer

In addition to our primary mission of delivering safe and reliable electricity, we are dedicated to growing our innovative portfolio of new business enterprises in telecom and distributed generation services. The President and Chief Executive Officer will be a strategic and innovative leader who will quickly earn credibility in the eyes of the Board and stakeholders and continue the evolution and growth of Oshawa Power and Utilities Corporation for long-term sustainability. 

The President and Chief Executive Officer will bring a successful track record as a CEO, President, COO or Senior Executive in a regulated industry. The President and Chief Executive Officer will have an impeccable business record, strong interpersonal skills, and must be a hands-on leader. 

Key Accountabilities:

Strategic and Organizational Leadership

  • Participates with the Board in developing a vision and strategic plan to guide the organization, recognizing and anticipating changes in the electricity sector
  • Develops an operational work plan which incorporates goals and objectives that moves the organization towards the strategic directions
  • Provides or designates support to the Board and the Board Committees by scheduling meetings, preparing meeting agendas and supporting materials in collaboration with the Boards’ Assistant
  • Provides strong leadership to a team of experienced professionals to develop programs, organizational and financial plans and policies
  • Reviews internal processes and procedures on an ongoing basis to identify opportunities for growth, change and efficiencies
  • In partnership with the Chair of the Board, acts as a spokesperson for the Company

Stakeholder Relations

  • Establishes good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with stakeholders including community groups, governments, politicians and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the organization
  • Communicates with stakeholders to keep them informed of the utility’s work
  • Ensures that all communications ( website, marketing brochures) are current, relevant and meets the needs of the organization

Shareholder Relations

  • Establishes good working relationship with the shareholder
  • Provides reports and meets regularly to provide business updates

Advisor to the Board

  • Identifies, assesses and informs the Board of key risks, both internal and external issues that impact the organization
  • Acts as a professional advisor to the Board on all aspects of the organizations activities
  • Conducts official correspondence on behalf of the Board as appropriate  

Fiscal Planning and Risk Management

  • Works with the staff and Board to prepare a comprehensive budget in support of the strategic plan
  • Approves expenditures within the authority provided by the Board
  • Ensures that best practices for financial accounting are being followed
  • Identifies and evaluates any potential risks to the organization and implements measures to control those risks
  • Ensures compliance with all federal and provincial regulations

  • Executive Assistant

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, Technology, or recognized equivalent with an MBA preferred
  • Minimum 10 to 15 years of senior leadership or management level experience
  • A commitment to leadership development, succession planning, employee empowerment, and inspiring a shared vision
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of a regulated market, trends, and the demand for the reduction of all types of energy usage and carbon emission
  • Executive presence and the ability to build meaningful relationships with all levels of clientele, internal staff, management, and external stakeholders
  • An innovative, results oriented, strategic thinker with demonstrated ability to drive business growth through market based solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to execute strategic plans and successfully implement change
  • Enhanced conflict resolution skills and the ability to handle difficult situations
  • Excellent communication skills to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Proven organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects
  • Demonstrated experience in a unionized environment is an asset
  • Experience in a multi-service utility environment an asset
