Powerline Maintainer or 2nd Year Apprentice

 

A full time vacancy currently exists with Cochrane Telecom Services at the Cochrane/Iroquois Falls Service Centres, who provides contractual services to Northern Ontario Wires Inc. Northern Ontario Wires maintains a regional infrastructure in the communities of Cochrane, Iroquois Falls and Kapuskasing that safely and reliably delivers electricity to homes, schools, businesses and other facilities in these communities. This includes delivering and maintaining poles, wires, and underground cables; responding to emergencies; tracking energy usage; and providing monthly customer billing. 

As the successful candidate you will:

  • Be under the direction of the Operations Manager.
  • Perform live line work on the distribution system.
  • Install hydro/telephone poles, transformers, etc.
  • Install high voltage wire and cable.
  • Perform meter reading, meter installation (residential/ commercial).
  • Perform service upgrades for residential and commercial.
  • Be able to work in a team environment to ensure the delivery of a high standard of customer service.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with all relevant legislation, safety regulations and other requirements to which the Company subscribes or is obligated to enforce.
  • Perform street light maintenance and installation.
  • The successful candidate is expected to maintain residency at a location permitting not more than a 30 minute response time (including inclement weather) to NOW facilities in Cochrane/Iroquois Falls.
  • Willingness to be on a scheduled rotation for on-call duties.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

  • Grade 12 diploma.
  • Red Seal Certification as a Powerline Maintainer or currently registered as a 2nd year apprentice.
  • Shall possess and maintain a valid Class “D” Ontario Driver’s Licence with a Class “Z” endorsement.
  • Shall be thoroughly familiar with the Company’s equipment, standards and practices, applicable to this type of work.
  • Shall have demonstrated a history of safe work practices and a full understanding of work protection code.
  • Bilingualism is an asset (French and English)
  • Must be able to carry out the physical work demands of the classification.
  • Operation of specific aerial devices and tools.
  • Must be able to work at heights, climb poles and work in inclement weather.
