HIGH VOLTAGE SUBSTATION TECHNICIANS

 

Overview

Working exclusively with our customer, Toronto Hydro, this role performs both high and low voltage switching on all Toronto Hydro distribution equipment, including station breakers, to provide work protection for various work groups. This position works to resolve issues to restore service to distribution customers, troubleshoot failed distribution circuits and equipment, reactive maintenance work and temporary and permanent repairs as required. 24/7/365 shift work is required.

 

Responsibilities

Install, inspect, maintain, repair, commission, test and approve for service all substation equipment, protective relay and control systems, station metering, distribution automation equipment and SCADA RTU systems associated with Toronto Hydro substation/distribution systems
Provide operating instructions for substation equipment
Perform cable terminations and testing of stations primary and secondary cable
Troubleshoot and diagnose any substation equipment failures such as distribution automation equipment failures, protection and control system failures, SCADA failures, etc.
Perform infra-red inspections
Test, repair, and maintain high voltage test equipment and live line tools
Report hazardous conditions to the System Operators
Maintain, update and complete reports, work orders, work procedures, engineering drawings, specifications, records and documentation related to the position

   

Experience & Education

Class G license is required, DZ license is preferred
Journeyman Electrician Certificate with experience working in high voltage utility substations (138kV and above).
CET Designation or in the process of obtaining (OACETT certification)
Experience with substation distribution systems
Toronto Hydro Substation/Distribution system experience is preferred
Journey Person Substation Electrician training would be an asset
 

Skills

Knowledge of OHSA, the EUSA Rule Book, and the Utility Work Protection Code
Strong commitment to workplace safety
Exceptional problem solving skills and a collaborative approach in determining course of action
Strong communication, customer service and leadership skills are essential
Basic computer skills are required
