BUYER

 

Oshawa PUC Networks Inc., a subsidiary of Oshawa Power and Utilities Corporation, is the local distribution company serving more than 50,000 customers in the City of Oshawa, located 45 minutes east of Toronto on the shores of Lake Ontario. 

Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, or designate, the incumbent will support and assist the Purchasing Manager with tactical matters and be responsible for performing the complete purchasing function (and managing the supply chain within) of commodities and services including capital purchases and projects as directed. The incumbent will supply parts and materials, as requested, by user departments and to maintain accurate records of these transactions and provide office support for the purchasing function by preparing purchase orders and requisitions; processing vouchers; maintaining inventories; and preparing correspondence for the purpose of purchasing supplies, equipment, or services. 

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: 

  • Purchase materials to engineering & distribution specifications at the best price, consistent with scheduling of capital work orders, maintenance stock, delivery availability, and purchasing costs. Maintain vendor records and price changes.
  • Assist the Purchasing Manager with contract services and job planning as required.
  • Participate in cycle counts and annual inventory of stock.
  • Recommend and assist with changes to computer generated reports.
  • Transfer of product via forklift and/or hand transfer. Process received goods including: unloading, verification, transporting (via forklift), shelving, disposal of packaging. Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
  • Responsible for material management at pole yard.
  • Check supplier’s invoices which do not agree with purchase orders, or terms of.
  • Assist the Purchasing Manager in managing the recycling programs including reel returns, skid returns, metal returns, and transformer returns and arrange for the disposal of obsolete and scrap materials.
  • Track and schedule testing for rubber gloves, rubber blankets, first aid kits, fire extinguishers and fire alarms. Issues safety equipment and materials and WHMIS information as specified Manager, Health & Safety.
  • Accurately maintain transformer database and records.
  • Coordinate, direct, and motivate staff during the Manager’s absence.
  • Assist Technical Services & Engineering personnel – review and evaluate current specifications or suggested changes from vendors.
  • General maintenance of the Stores Warehouse.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To be considered for this position applicants must meet the following minimum requirements: 

  • College Diploma with major emphasis on Purchasing and Materials/Supply Chain Management
  • Five (5) years Purchasing and/or Supply Chain experience; or have an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Enrollment in SCMA’s Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation, the APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), the Institute for Public Procurement (NIGP) or the Ontario Buyers Association (C.P.P.B.).
  • Excellent communications skills (verbal, phone, computer, fax).
  • Collaborate well with other individuals/departments.
  • Highly organized individual who is able to coordinate several projects at the same time.
  • Knowledge of electrical equipment, theories, and the ability to evaluate relevant data.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to execute and drive results.
