Journeyperson Electrical Substation Technician

 

We are currently seeking a Journeyperson Electrical Substation Technician to join our team at Lakeland Power Ltd. located in beautiful Muskoka/Parry Sound. You will be responsible for the maintenance of our substation transformers that services our customers within Muskoka and Parry Sound. 

The successful candidate will have proven technical skill categories focusing on substation and transformer installation, commissioning, service and maintenance with a minimum 5 years’ post journey person work experience. 

Responsibilities include; 

  • high voltage electrical field work including infrared scanning, substation maintenance, substation and transformer project installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, rationalization and implementation of system and equipment optimization measures, ownership of work from planning, implementation, and reporting to job closure.
  • includes but is not limited to 4 kV, 12.5 kV, 27.6 kV, and 44 kV class equipment. Switchgear activities on various types of breakers such as oil filled, gas filled, air magnetic, and vacuum. You will be responsible for relay testing and calibration of both electromechanical and electronic relays as well as testing the various protection schemes.
  • Provide Technical Support and problem-solving as well as on-site and in-house troubleshooting and problem-solving
  • Auto-CAD - Provide and use electrical/mechanical drawings as required for substation maintenance and/or electrical construction installations
  • Reports - Review and complete reports including Transformer Oil Analysis, Inspection and testing of high voltage electrical equipment installed in a substation. Ensure test and maintenance reports are maintained and completed at all times and review work performed by others
  • Performance of all work within health and safety regulations and applicable regulatory codes 
  • Perform and facilitate substation equipment maintenance according to company and industry standards

Technical/Professional Competencies

Complete knowledge and superior working experience with electrical power distribution systems Exemplary understanding of industry and regulatory standards and design criteria 

Lead and support team members on technical and job-related matters Strong computer skills including Auto-CAD, MS Office, Scada Systems

Knowledge of ESA regulations and a thorough knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and Occupational Health and Safety rules as they relate to the PSE/Electrician role

Non-Technical Competencies

Excellent organizational, prioritization, communication, leadership, problem solving and personal skills

Analytical, troubleshooting skills Willingness to travel periodically 

Physically fit, able to lift various types and weights of equipment.

Safety conscious and willing to learn and adapt to changing technologies in the industry. 

Must be able to work comfortably at heights Clean driving record, D class license. 

Pay and Benefits are per the Collective Labor Agreement.
