Design and Development Engineer

 

Responsibilities

  • Apply engineering principles in the design and development of insulators, jigs, fixtures, tools and machinery
  • Develop specifications for insulator components
  • Recommend improvements in the manufacturing, assembly, and testing of insulators.
  • Conduct mechanical and electrical tests on insulators and hardware.
  • Investigate and resolve insulator manufacturing and component technical issues.
  • Prepare 3D models and conduct mechanical load stress analysis of insulators and structures.
  • Solve fluid mechanics problems with laminar and turbulent flow for rubber injection molding and aluminum foundry.
  • Solve problems that arise from Production and Suppliers.
  • Assist in the commissioning of new tools and machinery.
  • Write technical reports.

 

Knowledge & Skills

  • Skilled with software and programming ability in C programming language or equivalent
  • Knowledge in Fluid Mechanics and Mechanical Load Stress Analysis
  • Knowledgeable in AutoCAD, SolidWorks 3D models and FEA and PLC programming
  • Capability in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook, Internet
  • PLS CADD/Pole for mechanical analysis of power line structures
  • Technical writing and presentations
  • Trained in project management and cost analysis.

 

Experience

  • Must have a minimum 5 years experience in designing jigs, fixtures, tools and machinery in a Manufacturing plant.
  • Experience in polymer injection molding process and equipment is an asset.

 

Education

  • University Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.

 

Membership

  • Certified P. Eng.
