Journeyperson or Apprentice P&C Technologist

(Maximum: $40.33/hr – Fully Qualified)

Reporting to the Supervisor SAM/Hydro Distribution, the successful applicant will be the principle resource responsible for the installation and repair of all protective elements related to the ENWIN electrical distribution system. In collaboration with the Systems Planning Engineer and SCADA Supervisor, the P&C Technologist is the principle agent tasked with the installation, trouble shooting and maintenance of all SCADA controlled equipment, the five ENWIN owned 115KV transformer stations and all computerized, electronic communication and mechanical protective devices installed on the ENWIN system. The P&C Technologist will also be responsible for the performance of pre-commissioning testing and programming of new equipment, diagnostic testing and effective repairs to defective devices as well as collaborating with the Systems Planning Engineer and SCADA Supervisor on the design and wiring of control cabinets for new installations.   

The hours of work for this position are 7:30am – 3:30pm. 

The successful applicant must possess the following qualifications: 

  • Must be a graduate of a three (3) year Electrical/Electronic Technologist program from a recognized community college.
  • Ability to interpret wiring prints, electrical schematics and system maps.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with demonstrated ability to complete relevant paperwork, journals, logbooks and reports.
  • Ability to illustrate a commitment to a strong safety culture through a demonstrated knowledge of and compliance with all relevant safety rules, legislation, policies and work procedures.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environment that includes: heavy lifting, stretching and pulling, climbing to work at heights and/or work in confined spaces in proximity to high voltage energized lines in extreme weather conditions, year-round.
  • Proven ability to successfully cope with stressful situations.
  • Valid Class ‘D’ Ontario Drivers Licence with a ‘Z’ endorsement or the ability to obtain both within ninety (90) days of appointment to the position.
  • Knowledge of high voltage distribution equipment, distribution system protective elements and familiarity with customer owned equipment.
  • Working knowledge of instruments, meters and test equipment used in the performance of duties. 

The Apprentice P&C Technologist position involves successful completion of an 8,000 hour apprenticeship program. This program is comprised of on-the-job training and completion of selected industry-related courses. Duties will become progressively greater with each phase of practical experience and formal training. Progression within the classification will depend on satisfactory performance on the job and successful completion of the industry-related courses. The incumbent will be assigned to various shifts throughout the apprenticeship period and, with training, will be expected to work on and operate high voltage equipment.
