Network Analyst

Oshawa Power maintains 1000 km of overhead and underground distribution lines within a 150 km2 service territory, operated at 44 and 13.8 kV, supplied by 9 distribution and 3 transmission substations. POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager of Information Systems Technology, the Network Analyst is responsible for the operation, maintenance, reliability and security of information technology services in a 24x7 mission critical environmental. This position is directly accountable for the implementation of assigned capital renewal and preventative maintenance programs, the installation and configuration of required enterprise architecture, the application of cyber security controls, maintenance of back-up and disaster recovery systems, routine help-desk support, project management, and assistance with the development of required IT policies and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

General

  • Operate, maintain, manage, upgrade, renew and secure information technology systems
  • Prioritize work requests and escalate issues as required
  • Implement IT asset management plans
  • Manage vendor relationships, service contracts and warranties
  • Act as a project manager for assigned IT projects; assess business requirements and required functionality, define scopes of work, prepare estimates, track budgets, review change orders, manage timelines and work quality, keep detailed project records and take accountability for deliverables
  • Respond to and recover critical systems required for 24x7 business continuity
  • Support the continuous improvement of network design

 Network Administration

  • Administer and maintain file, mail, web, application and domain control servers
  • Manage, operate and sustain copper, fiber and wireless communication networks
  • Troubleshoot, repair and restore networks upon equipment malfunction or failure; perform root cause analysis; determine corrective actions to prevent recurrence and ensure system resiliency
  • Implement, document and maintain virtual machine environments, data back-up and disaster recovery solutions
  • Maintain data centers, server rooms and associated ancillary systems; provide on-going support for operational control rooms
  • Analyze, test and assess adequacy of network infrastructure; conduct capacity planning for bandwidth, data storage and application processing
  • Engage in network and IP planning to optimize switching and system performance
  • Execute annual capital renewal and preventative maintenance programs; upgrade hardware, software and operating systems to mitigate risks from end of service life
  • Help research, propose and implement new technology; keep informed of the latest industry trends and standards; assist in the preparation of business justifications and tender documentation

Cyber Security

  • Help implement cyber security controls required for compliance with the Ontario Cyber Security Framework and evolving industry best practice
  • Maintain detailed asset inventory lists, network diagrams, process maps and data flow charts
  • Help facilitate system audits and testing to identify and address vulnerabilities
  • Implement business continuity and disaster recovery plans
  • Maintain firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, and security information and event management tools

Customer Service & Applications Support

  • Help support and oversee the effective operation of the IT help desk; manage and resolve issues with network access, software applications, personal computers and mobile phones
  • Calculate, measure and monitor IT service targets
  • Strive to resolve all work requests in a timely manner, exceeding user expectations
  • Instruct, mentor and coach interns or students assigned to the IT help desk
  • Prioritize operational work requests; coordinate and facilitate integration with required operational technology
  • Ensure timely notification of planned service outages; minimize operational disruptions
  • Help facilitate employee onboarding; provide new staff with required hardware, software, user accounts and access rights; provide training as required
  • Support web services, marketing and social media initiatives

QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • College Diploma or Bachelor degree in computer science, math, information systems or engineering, CCNP/MCSE designations, or a combination of education and experience deemed equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of experience administering mission critical IT networks; working experience within an local distribution company (LDC) and PMP certifications considered an asset
  • Proficiency with Windows and Linux Servers, ethernet (TCP/IP), network switching, VLAN configuration, routing (BGP, IGRP, EIGRP), MPLS, WDM, VoIP & IVR systems, Wi-Fi, cellular networks and radio systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot and maintain Oracle and SQL application databases
  • Demonstrated experience specifying, installing, configuring and managing: Cisco enterprise products, next generation firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, virtual private networks, web and email filtering, email exchanges, anti-virus systems, network access controls, security information and event management tools, storage area networks, network attached storage, data backup & recovery tools including archival tape systems, load balancers, public key infrastructure, virtualization and cloud services
  • Specific experience maintaining and upgrading Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, VMware ESXi and vSphere Client, Veeam Backup & Replication, Symantec Backup Exec, Windows Servers 2008/2012/2016 and Linux Servers Redhat/Suse/CentOS
  • Ability to script
  • Service-oriented and strong collaborator; excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Analytical and systematic in problem solving approach; ability to assess, rationalize, troubleshoot, diagnose and repair
  • Organizational savvy and political acuity; ability to recognize and deal with sensitive issues in a discreet and professional manner
  • Valid Class G Driver's License in good standing
