Position Purpose:

This position, reporting to the Head, Business & Financial Support, plays a key role in supporting the business and financial needs across all innovation domains embarked at the GRE&T center. This role is responsible for the development of business cases, proposals, and complex economic models, to support strategic decisions in the pursuit of pilot projects and evaluation of potential commercialization opportunities of emerging technologies. This role also works collaboratively and in conjunction with other support functions led by the Budgeting team to support budgeting, financial forecasts and funding application submissions.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the development of comprehensive financial models to support strategic decision making in respect of economic viability of new emerging technologies, incubation and piloting strategies, and commercialization potentials, for various project domains;
  • Support the evaluation and identification of start-up companies, potential strategic alliances, and/or partners, with growth prospects that are aligned with Alectra’s growth strategy;
  • Develop energy market competitive analysis, business cases and proposals, in support of evaluation on commercialization opportunities post incubation and piloting stage of new technologies;
  • Facilitate business discussions, present economics and financial evaluation of business cases/proposals to the senior management team at GRE&T center, Energy Solutions’ leadership, and prospective alliances or partners;
  • Provide financial modelling and analysis to support project managers in the design and delivery of program specifics, across all project domains as required;
  • Support the project managers, where applicable, in the development of legal and commercial contracts for the execution of pilot projects; assisting the development of project plan and reviewing funding application as required;
  • Keep current with the Ontario Electricity Market changes and regulatory environment; conduct research and analysis as required in support of GRE&T center overall strategies;
  • Support the financial due diligence review process with the Corporate Finance group on proposed business cases and financial models, for new pilot project initiatives;
  • Work collaboratively with the Budgeting team/Financial Partner at the GRE&T center to support the development of business plan, project budgets and other financial related requirements;
  • Provide overall financial and strategic support to the GRE&T center to achieve departmental key performance indicators and departmental objectives;
  • Perform other projects and duties as assigned; support the GRE&T team members and promote team effectiveness and cohesiveness;
  • Ensures compliance to legislative, regulatory and Health & Safety policies, procedures and standards.

Education & Specialized Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce;
  • An MBA and/or Certified Public Accountant designation would be an asset;
  • Solid knowledge of energy market and Ontario Electricity Industry;
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft suite of products and other analytical software.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years’ working experience in energy industry;
  • Comprehensive financial modelling; database design and application would be an asset;
  • Business cases and proposal development in support of strategic investment decision making;
  • Market and business opportunities evaluation and presentation to senior management team and stakeholders.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Excellent analytical ability to critically analyze complex information, design financial/economic models, sensitivity and scenario analysis, etc., in support of evaluating business opportunities and investment decisions;
  • Strong ability to plan, prioritize and execute multiple projects and initiatives within established timelines;
  • Solid problem-solving and analytical skills with strong results orientation and ability to deliver under tight deadline and pressure;
  • Strong written and presentation skills, with the ability to explain intricate technical information in an organized and concise way;  
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively with peers in a team-based environment;
  • Energetic and enthusiastic team player committed to overall success of the organization.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid class “G” driver’s license.
