A seasoned strategic-thinker with a wealth of financial business experience and enhanced leadership, analysis and problem-solving skills, you rise to the challenge of this extraordinary opportunity to steer the financial development of a major power distribution company and help shape its success and growth.

SYNERGY NORTH is responsible for distributing electricity to over 56,000 customers in the City of Thunder Bay and the City of Kenora. Proportionally owned by the two cities, SYNERGY NORTH builds, plans and maintains the power line system for the area, and provides 24-hour energy response. The electricity the company provides its customers runs through a network of over 1,400 km of overhead and underground power lines in both communities. Managed by the SYNERGY NORTH Board of Directors, SYNERGY NORTH head office is located in Thunder Bay and has a total staff of 142 employees.

SYNERGY NORTH is seeking a strategic-thinking financial business executive to manage its financial affairs and provide exceptional leadership and direction to the Finance Division. As SYNERGY NORTH’s Vice President, Finance, you will work closely with the President & CEO and the Executive Team to develop and implement both short- and long-term tactical and strategic plans in accordance with SYNERGY NORTH’s business goals and objectives.

Leveraging your vast financial business experience and expertise, you will develop excellent financial and regulatory business strategies and plans, ensuring their alignment with both short- and long-term objectives. Your effective leadership skills will serve you well as you provide guidance on strategic business development and key corporate planning issues on major business decisions. On a day-to-day basis, you will lead and motivate your staff, developing a high performing, goal-oriented team.

SYNERGY NORTH’s Vision is to be the trusted partner for energy and related services, and you will contribute to that Vision through everything you do. Keeping the Board of Directors up to date on the Company’s status against—and its ability to meet—its financial objectives, you will monitor department performance against long-term goals to ensure progress is being made and that corrective action is taken if necessary.

As Vice President, Finance, you will keep your finger constantly on the pulse of SYNERGY NORTH, reviewing financial and non-financial reports to devise innovative business improvements and analyzing financial growth scenarios to provide solutions ensuring, not only company survival, but company growth. Maintaining a deep knowledge of the company’s industry, you will also build strong relationships with key partners and stakeholders to enhance the success of SYNERGY NORTH.

With a University degree in Accounting, Business or Finance, you have earned a professional accounting designation and have gained several years of senior supervisory accounting experience. You possess strong knowledge of financial management and responsibility, business finance, capital funding, contracts, and partnerships as well as sound understanding of risk management and the issues faced by both SYNERGY NORTH and the industry as a whole.

While you are a seasoned financial expert, your strengths and skills reach far beyond the financial realm. You are a strategic thinker who can identify key issues and creatively solve internal/external challenges and obstacles, and you possess honed leadership skills with a focus on team-building, mentoring and motivation.

With excellent attention to detail and accuracy, you have a high level of integrity, confidentiality and accountability. You bring to the position a wide variety of abilities including sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization and execution skills, a well-defined sense of diplomacy, and solid negotiation, conflict resolution and people management skills.
