Meter Technician

Reporting to the Metering Supervisor, you will install and maintain all single-phase metering, poly-phase metering and automated meter reading equipment and systems to applicable standards. This will include performing meter changes to ensure compliance with Measurement Canada’s required annual meter reverification. This will entail preparing job plans for project to complete meter maintenance on various metering systems, troubleshooting problems with meter systems, AMI Network communication, modem/communication equipment and telephone lines as they occur, maintaining and programming electronic metering hardware and software, as well as organizing meters being reverified by accredited meter testing shops. You will also check meter and metering equipment inventory quantities, relay information to the Metering Sub-foreperson, and maintain accurate manual and computerized records.
With a diploma from a college Engineering Technology (Electrical or Electronic) program or equivalent experience, you bring strong computer skills with related software applications and networking, an understanding of wireless communications, and concise written and verbal communication skills. You have a thorough knowledge of the specifications and safe work practices in the E&USA Rule Book, ESA Regulation and OH&SA. Experience in all aspects of Utility metering systems construction and maintenance is an asset. You must hold a valid class G Ontario driver’s licence and be able to perform the essential duties of the position which include being physically able to handle heavy metering equipment, working in both indoor and outside environments, and proficiency with hand and power tools in the construction of metering installations. Preference will be given to Journeyperson candidates with their MEARIE Metering Technician Certificate, or those working towards their certificate in an apprenticeship position.
