Position Summary:

This union position is responsible for the efficient and safe construction, maintenance, operation and troubleshooting of the overhead and underground distribution system.

Skills/Knowledge/Experience Required: 

Skills/Abilities:

  • Intermediate verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic MS Office Skills and use of Corporate Software
  • Basic time management and planning skills with the ability to multitask and adopt to changing industry standards
  • Able to deal with fellow employees and customers in a tactful and courteous manner
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Advanced problem solving, critical thinking and trouble shooting skills within differing situations
  • Ability to participate in on call rotation
  • Physically able to work on distribution equipment and heavy equipment in an all environments
  • Ability to work in proximity to high voltage energized equipment
  • Intermediate ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, sketches and engineering drawings

Knowledge/Education: 

  • Trade Certificate as a Powerline Technician/Maintainer
  • College Diploma in a Powerline Technician Program or equivalent industry experience
  • Intermediate knowledge of distribution system equipment and operation
  • Intermediate knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements as it relates to individual, organizational and operational requirements
  • Intermediate knowledge of E&USA Rules, USF Standards and the ESA Distribution Safety Regulations
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical trade tools, measurement and test equipment and their operation
  • Advanced knowledge of Utility Work Protection Code
  • Accept the duties of Acting Supervisor when required

Experience: 

  • 4 years’ related experience
  • Valid Class “A” driver’s licence with Z endorsement 

Responsibilities: 

  • Construct, maintain and troubleshoot underground and overhead electrical distribution system.
  • Perform safe work on live voltages utilizing appropriate techniques and procedures to minimize outages.
  • Ensure personal safety, the safety of co-workers and members of the public through proper use of safety procedures and working in compliance with regulatory requirements and procedures.
  • Install underground cables, complete splicing and make cable terminations.
  • Respond to planned or unplanned calls to assess, troubleshoot and repair distribution equipment.
  • Clean and maintain specialized equipment.
  • Interpret work instructions for construction and sign off for compliance
  • Operate heavy equipment including radial boom derricks, bucket trucks, crane trucks and tension stringing machines.
  • Performs switching, maintenance, verification and testing of isolated or energized distribution equipment
