High Voltage Substation Technician/Technologist

Skills and Requirements:

  • Must be a self-starting, team player and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • 3+ years contractor/utility field experience.
  • Problem solving, action and solutions-oriented doer.
  • Proficient in use of electrical engineering design and analysis software as well as common enterprise software and knowledge of applicable IEE & NETA standards.
  • Physically fit, able to lift various types and weights of equipment.
  • Ability to travel to job sites, with some extended stay from time to time.
  • Safety conscious and willing to learn and adapt to changing technologies in the industry.
  • Clean driving record, minimum G class license required, D class license would be an asset. 

The Role:

  • High Voltage / Power System maintenance, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting
  • Assist with information collection and analysis for Arc-Flash and Coordination Studies.
  • Performing a wide range of engineering technology tasks by operating computer-assisted test, analysis & design engineering software and equipment.
  • Prepare project reports by collecting, summarizing, analyzing and interpreting information; drawing correct conclusions and making appropriate recommendations.
  • Communicate with customers, engineers, and others to discuss the relevant relative merits of existing or potential engineering products or projects, problems and potential solutions.
  • Provide engineering information by answering technical questions and requests. 

Education/Certifications:

  • Post Secondary education in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technician/Technology program or equivalent
  • OACETT certification preferred
