VP ENGINEERING AND OPERATIONS

 

 

 

An exciting and challenging opportunity is available for a results-oriented individual to be part of a customer-focused energy distribution corporation serving over 24,500 customers in fifteen communities within Grey, Bruce Huron and Wellington counties. Westario Power’s office is located in the Town of Walkerton. 

This position is a critical member of the Executive Leadership team and reports to the President and CEO for formulating distribution network investment plans, including capital replacement, refurbishment, systems additions and enhancements to achieve maximum life cycle value, optimal capital utilization and high standards of system reliability. The role is also responsible for the annual operational plan by establishing the expectations in a manner that maximizes productivity and minimizes costs, maximizes the efficient use of resources, and looks for and achieves continuous improvement while protecting the safety of workers and the public. 

To be considered, candidates must show demonstrated ability to: 

Engineering Systems

  • Provide leadership and expertise to job plans, cost estimates and layouts for new/upgraded service installations,
  • Assist in the development and administration of the annual capital and operating budget and manages programs to be consistent with budget objectives
  • Design and cost new Subdivision expansions and commercial customers over 50KW; and administer regulated documentation
  • Certify design drawings, specifications and standards as a Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario
  • Responsible for Geographic Information System (GIS) and the Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition System (SCADA)
  • Verify that field installations are built to construction standards as required by the CVP and Reg. 22/04
  • Provide direction to engineering design and technical specifications pertaining to construction, operations and maintenance of electrical distribution
  • Pursue, support and actively be involved in new revenue opportunities that build performance excellence and
  • Prepare long term capital betterment plans and maintenance works schedules, along with associated cost estimates
  • Reviews variance analysis on each Engineering and Operational maintenance budget on a monthly basis

Electricity Systems

  • Meet the electricity needs of customers through the design, construction and maintenance of a reliable, safe and cost effective electricity system, within the terms of the Company’s Vision and Values
  • Develop and implement, revise as required, and administrate the Asset Management Plan; including replacement, or expansion as the system needs warrant.
  • Lead the utility’s Emergency Management Plan and Emergency response Plan
  • Lead outage restoration in collaboration with Supervisors and on call team
  • Co-ordinate and oversee Planning Engineers with Job Plan Management
  • Co-ordinate and oversee the Tendering process
  • Oversee the metering program, internal and third party

Safety

  • Co-ordinate Company Health and Safety program within Engineering and Operations, actively participates in meetings and training for development purposes
  • Observe all Company safety standards and report unsafe conditions
  • Recommend ways to improve the safety of the work environment
  • Ensure work practices are in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and any other applicable legislation. (IHSA, ESA, etc) 

Qualifications 

  • Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, Professional Engineering designation mandatory
  • A minimum of ten years in Operations specifically Electrical Distribution
  • Thorough knowledge of utility electrical distribution systems including their design, construction and maintenance.
  • Management and Supervisory experience, course and/or training
  • Excellent oral and written communications/interpersonal/presentation skills.
  • Ontario Class G Driver’s license.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint Outlook, etc.).
