Position Purpose

The Director, Enterprise Risk provides leadership on corporate risk identification, assessment and remediation; risk event tracking; assisting in the business continuity program coordination; and generally all corporate governance risks. As a resource to the Audit and Finance Committee, Executives, Managers, Supervisors, employees, and external stakeholders this position is responsible for providing training, communications and project management relating to any issues of enterprise risk. 

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

  • Responsible for the leadership, innovation, governance, and management necessary to identify, evaluate, and monitor the company's operational and strategic risk - both reactive (ie: evaluating risk from non-conformance or emergency situation) or proactive.
  • Responsible to facilitate management’s mitigation of risk.
  • Ensures the organization's risk management policies and strategies are in compliance with applicable regulations and strategic requirements of the organization.
  • Monitors and analyzes risks within the company's business units and reports on these risks to the Board.
  • Provides key inputs into the company's enterprise risk or other committees that oversee the enterprise risk management process and ensures alignment with organizational objectives
  • Participate in annual strategic planning for enterprise risk management program needs and objectives.
  • Develops and delivers clear, effective and timely reports and updates for senior management and/or the Board regarding enterprise risk management program effectiveness, initiatives and issues, including relevant metrics, dashboards and information.
  • Develops and implements Enterprise Risk Management tools, practices, and programs to analyze and report on enterprise risks.
  • Implements and executes effective monitoring, tracking and reporting procedures to ensure the success of the programs, as measured by regular assessments and metric-based analysis.
  • Keeps abreast of changing enterprise risk management requirements and variables, including relevant laws, rules, industry standards, company practices and technology initiatives.
  • Develops and implement best practices in Enterprise Risk Management.
  • Works with all areas of the company to identify new or evolving risks.
  • Works with risk owners to ensure risks are being analyzed and plans are being created to track and mitigate risks.
  • Provides overall direction for consistent risk prioritization and reporting across the company
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in Business Administration or a related field required
  • CMA/CGA/CA/CPA designation
  • Must hold and maintain a valid class “G” driver’s license

Specialized Knowledge

  • Solid understanding of risk management, risk modeling, compliance and risk reporting systems
  • Ability to translate detail into clear, concise, insightful executive communications
  • Knowledge of the Ontario deregulated electricity market
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications
  • Knowledge of IT systems and cybersecurity

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years related experience, with experience at manager level in an LDC environment
  • In-depth experience in financial and regulatory areas
  • Previous experience managing enterprise risk management efforts and/or relevant Internal Audit experience

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships and effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, at all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead projects that require the active involvement of a wide variety of individuals across the company
  • Driven to achieve excellence through a strong work ethic and an appropriate “sense of urgency”
  • Excellent organizational skills, with ability to handle multiple duties
