Orangeville Hydro is a local distribution company that provides electricity to approximately 12,500 homes and businesses within Orangeville and Grand Valley, as well as bills customers for water and sewer services on behalf of the Town of Orangeville and the Town of Grand Valley. As the successful candidate you will be reporting to the Manager of Operations & Engineering to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the electrical distribution system. You will be directly involved in the design, planning, operation, and maintenance of the electrical distribution system. This position plays a key role in the technical and financial planning of distribution, station, and metering assets. 

Primary Duties/ Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Assist in the design and planning of the overhead and underground distribution systems
  • Assist in the preparation of forecasts, estimates and budgets associated with all capital, maintenance, and customer demand projects
  • Monitor system health including inspection reports, outage data, power quality data, and feeder loading
  • Provide specifications or order transformers for developments
  • Monitor and maintain advanced metering infrastructure and advanced distribution equipment
  • Complete short-term and long-term load forecasting and system design to accommodate growth
  • Assist in the preparation of planning documents including Asset Management Plan, Embedded Generation Plan, Capital Plan and Distribution System Plan
  • Prepare and present technical summaries and status reports to management
  • Update and maintain asset and easement records within GIS as well as inventory records in Microsoft Access
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of policies, procedures, and practices to ensure compliance with legislation and industry standards
  • Produce written job instructions/work orders for capital and maintenance projects
  • Provide technical advice and support to other departments as well as provide technical customer service regarding power quality issues, meter disputes, conservation programs, loading inquiries, and billing issues
  • In an emergency and staff shortages, provide field assistance under the direction of the Working Foreman or on call lines staff
  • Visit and inspect jobsites as required as well as complete field inspections of assets
  • Liaise and coordinate projects with various departments, third parties, customers, and stakeholders 
  • Adhere to all Occupational Health & Safety Act rules and regulations, as well as Orangeville Hydro’s Policies and Procedures
  • Effectively manage your time by prioritizing urgent tasks
  • Assist the Engineering department and other departments with other duties as required 

Qualifications  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technician or Technologist Diploma, or a graduate from a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) certificate program.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with OACETT for C.Tech or CET designation.
  • Experience within the electrical distribution sector would be considered an asset including overhead and underground construction, industrial and commercial services, joint use, metering, and information technology systems
  • Strong knowledge of applicable standards, regulations, common utility procedures and policies as they relate to the distribution system
  • Strong knowledge and experience to operate and maintain operating systems and computer software including GIS, Microstation and SCADA would be an asset (AutoCAD Map 3D, SPIDAcalc, Microsoft Office including Access and Excel)
  • A good understanding of safety procedures and electrical hazards related to the electrical industry
  • Must hold and maintain a valid Class “G” Driver’s License in good standing (DZ license would be considered an asset).
