Canadian Niagara Power Inc. is an electric distribution company that serves approximately 25,000 customers in Fort Erie and Port Colborne. Canadian Niagara Power Inc. is currently recruiting for an:

SYSTEM OPERATOR

Reporting to the System Control Supervisor, the System Operator is responsible to monitor, control and direct the efficient operation of the electrical distribution system; dispatch work crews; prepare and direct switching procedures and operations; prepare records and reports on the operation of the electrical distribution system; plan and prepare for system outages; provide holds-offs; co-ordinate work projects; communicate effectively with customers, other agencies and authorities.

We are accepting applications for a team player with the ability with a good knowledge of electric power systems, an aptitude to read electrical and mechanical diagrams and have the training and knowledge on emergency response procedures. Interest candidates must apply in writing to express their interest in the position, outlining their education, experience and qualifications. The minimum qualifications are as follows:

• Completed the MEA Operator Training program (I & II) and satisfied the hours and training required for the Journeyperson Electrical Operator certificate or eligibility to obtain a CET designation within thirty-six (36) months.
• A complete understanding of the E&USA Utility Work Protection Code is required and formal certification and qualification is mandatory.
• Advanced skills in the use of computer software including SCADA, MS Office and GIS.
• Detailed knowledge and adequate experience on the operations and procedures of hydraulic and electrical apparatus.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills as well as strong analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills are essential.
