IT SPECIALIST

 

Niagara Peninsula Energy Inc. (NPEI) is seeking a qualified individual to join our management team in the position of IT Specialist. This position is an in-office role working out of our corporate office located in Niagara Falls, with occasional travel to all NPEI locations where our corporate technical infrastructure is in place. This position reports to the IT Supervisor and is responsible for the planning and build out of the IT infrastructure and making recommendations regarding new technologies.  The IT Specialist will ensure the seamless integration of systems and provide end user support for the organization. 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Project lead of assigned IT projects relative to system integration, voice technology to ensure that they are completed on time and on budget. Participate in special projects through completing initial research, co-ordination and scheduling with consultants, suppliers, and contractors for system integration, voice technology systems and other projects as assigned.
  • Maintain an accurate IT asset inventory managed by the Corporation.
  • Support and build out IT infrastructure, servers, PCs, laptops, network and telephony.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of new technologies and make recommendations that would benefit NPEI.
  • Meet with individual departments to identify and execute IT integration requirements as assigned.
  • Complete departmental activities that arise from escalated help desk requests providing expertise and troubleshooting of network issues.
  • Complete proof of concept evaluation and business case for recommendation to IT Manager.
  • Support budget process by obtaining pricing for new equipment, security and network related costs.
  • Implement and update of security access as it pertains to corporate hardware, software, data and internet access/usage per security requirements form and procedure as set out by IT Security in compliance to Written Information Security Program for all users, including contractors and their devices in use.
  • Implement and maintenance of the corporate computing network infrastructure including renewal of security certificates upon approval of renewal.
  • Assist with the infrastructure design/implementation and support, capacity planning, application research and disaster recovery design/implementation and maintenance.
  • Participate in the deployment of vulnerable patches as provided by IT Security. 

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • University Degree in Computer Science or STEM major (science, technology, engineering and math), or a College Diploma in Information Systems / Network / Electronics Technician or Technology.
  • CompT1A A+ Certification or equivalent is required.
  • Requires 3 – 5 years of relevant, progressive experience.
  • Work experience in an electric utility is an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of IT security policies and procedures and products.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as SFTP/AS2/Sharefile.
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS and LAN/WAN technologies as well as technical PC support.
