Position Purpose:

The Network Systems Administrator ensures the stable operation of the in-house network, systems, servers and network connections, and promotes security and integrity of data, data systems and data networks across the organization. This position also assists with network design and project management and acts as a team leader, delegating tasks as required to other PC Support staff related to day to day network management. 

The Network Systems Administrator’s role is to ensure the stable operation of the in-house computer network. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network hardware, software, and communication links. The person will also analyze and resolve end user hardware and software computer problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training where required. 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures the efficient operation and stability of the IT network by installing, configuring and upgrading personal computers, servers, network stations and related peripherals, operating systems and various software applications
  • Performs backup and recovery duties
  • Maintains security by checking firewall logs, scrutinizing network traffic, and establishing/updating virus scanning tools in conjunction with IT security
  • Configures network devices including switches, routers and firewalls
  • Troubleshoots hardware and software related problems
  • Maintains and updates various customer databases (i.e. hardware/software)
  • Works with Vendors/Service providers coordinate the ordering and delivery of service or products, manage contracts, and/or to resolve any delivery or service issues
  • Acts as a team leader, delegating tasks as required to other PC Support staff related to day-to-day network management
  • Creates and implements policies, procedures, and standards across all infrastructure platforms and ensures their conformance with IT and corporate objectives
  • Participates in and prepares reports regarding effectiveness of all administration policies
  • Produces metrics and reports for functional areas of responsibility
  • Assists in the selection of new solutions/technologies that meet business needs and align to the IT architectural plan
  • Participates in the delivery of new technologies to production to help achieve business goals
  • Ensures compliance with IT audit functions related to network operations
  • Provides technical expertise in the planning, design and implementation of projects and key initiatives
  • Identifies opportunities to streamline or automate processes to continuously improve service delivery 
  • Ensures compliance to legislative, regulatory and Health & Safety policies, procedures and standards
  • May be required participate in on-call rotation
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications:Education:

  • Degree or College Diploma in Computer Science/Information Systems or recognized equivalent
  • Cisco certification training an asset
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and CCNA designations are an asset
  • Must hold and maintain a valid class “G” driver’s license.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in large IT infrastructure organization
  • Strong infrastructure experience across vendor platforms
  • Ethernet network topology experience and TCP/IP proficiency is an asset

Specialized Knowledge: 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of operating systems and server usage, installation, configuration and maintenance and other major applications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of personal computer hardware installation and configuration
  • Knowledge of VoIP Technology and Infrastructure peripherals
  • Disaster Recovery implementation and execution
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office applications
