PRESIDENT

 

GridSmartCity® seeks an experienced individual for the position of President. This position requires a strategic and innovative leader who will work with GSC Cooperative Executive Partners, committees, GSC commercial partners and stakeholders to evolve and grow GridSmartCity and the Cooperative for long-term sustainability. 

Launched in 2009, GridSmartCity (GSC) is a consortium of 30 partner organizations –utilities, smart grid innovators and commercial entities, academia, government and other key electricity industry stakeholders – focused on a culture of collaboration intended to enhance innovation and the sustainability of local distribution networks. 

The GridSmartCity Cooperative (Cooperative) is an extension of GridSmartCity and includes 13 member Local Distribution Companies (LDC’s).* The member utilities of the Cooperative provide access to expertise, resources and scale to provide value to customers; manage delivery costs effectively; and, as thought leaders, prepare for future business models and technology changes in the energy sector. We do this to enable member organizations to remain autonomous while being more efficient in delivering services and in implementing innovative solutions for the benefit of their customers, shareholders and the communities they serve.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Develop the Cooperative strategic and annual business plans with the assistance of GSC partners, for approval by the Governance committee, which incorporates the goals and objectives that will move GSC forward and create opportunities for business development and shared services
  • Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with all GSC stakeholders and further grow GSC partnerships in order to help achieve the goals of the Cooperative and other GSC initiatives
  • Evaluate emerging market trends, disruptive technologies and transformation due to climate change and seek out business opportunities and smart grid technology pilot demonstration projects for the Cooperative
  • Develop and implement marketing programs and advocacy opportunities to increase the profile and influence of the Cooperative
  • Investigate funding sources and financing partners for demonstration projects and innovation pilots
  • Closely monitor and assess industry trends and issues facing the future of the LDC sector and the Cooperative. Evaluate and provide input to the Governance committee on the strategic direction of the Cooperative.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Minimum of 10 to 15 years of senior leadership or management level experience, preferably in the Energy Sector
  • Graduate degree in Engineering, Finance or Business Administration, or related discipline
  • Strong leadership skills, exceptional business acumen and the strategic agility required to plan, lead and drive change
  • Results-driven with demonstrated ability to execute strategic and business plans of the organization
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a collaborative and consensus building approach to decision making
  • Demonstrates an ability to establish strong business contacts and relationships with member partners and key industry stakeholders including government, agencies and other industry organizations
  • Knowledge and understanding of best practices in marketing and in new business development and brand management.
