SYSTEMS OPERATIONS TECHNICIAN OR APPRENTICE SYSTEMS OPERATIONS TECHNICIAN

 

Oshawa PUC Networks Inc., a subsidiary of Oshawa Power and Utilities Corporation, is the local distribution company serving more than 50,000 customers in the City of Oshawa, located 45 minutes east of Toronto on the shores of Lake Ontario. 

Reporting to the Manager, Metering and Operations, the incumbent will be responsible for monitoring and controlling OPUCN’s electrical distribution system to ensure a reliable and stable power supply to our customers. The successful candidate must enroll in and successfully complete the MEARIE Journeyperson Electrical Operator Training Program. 

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Responsible for monitoring and control of the OPUCN distribution system
  • Responsible for coordinating distribution crews for power outage restoration
  • Coordinate planned and emergency switching and act as the Controlling Authority for applying the IHSA Utility Work Protection Code
  • Maintain System Operator’s Log and current System Conditions
  • Update and maintain Distribution System Information in AutoCAD and GIS, OMS and SCADA, IVR and Web presentment.
  • Prepare required reporting of service quality and outages
  • Responding to Customer inquiries related to outages and outage scheduling, ensuring excellent customer service
  • Perform other related duties as may be assigned from time to time

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate as an Engineering Technologist or Technician (Electrical or Electronics) of an accredited institute
  • OACETT certified or ability to be OACETT certified within a reasonable time period
  • Proficient with MS Office and AutoCAD
  • Strong, effective communications skills (verbal and written) and demonstrated interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Must be self-motivated and well organized with a high commitment to safety
  • Must have ability to multi-task, with high attention to detail and be able to adapt to sudden changes in priorities
  • Able to remain calm in emergency situations and handle stress associated with the position
  • Valid Class G driver’s license and excellent driving record
  • Must be able to respond to on-call emergencies within a reasonable timeframe

WAGE RATE:

As per the collective agreement
